I considered Metallica’s ...And Justice for All, but it’s difficult to ignore the complete lack of bass guitar that is still argued about, today. And when you consider the band members grew tired of playing songs from the album not long after its release, you’ve got a good case against it being their best record.

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
That song was their first single on their fourth studio album, A Night at the Opera.

Just a difference of taste but I think either Women and Chidren First or Fair Warning were Van Halen’s pinnacle. And Diver Down is my favorite Van Halen album. That is quite the trifecta.

Close To The Edge was Yes' fifth album. Fragile was the fourth, after Yes, Time And A Word, and The Yes Album.

Neil Young - Harvest (4th)

Kid A was Radiohead’s 4th album.
Many would consider that their magnum opus, though I personally think a few of their other albums are better.

Vulgar Display is Pantera’s 6th album
RHCP: although BSSM was great, I think Californication/By the Way was their best.
Kanye West: MBDTF

I know most consider Metallica’s third album, Master of Puppets, to be their best. But their fifth full-length release, known as “The Black Album,” was a commercial monster and sounds as good as a hard rock album can thanks to the stellar production of Bob Rock
The Black album was a commercial success, but obviously Puppets was their peak.

Spock’s Beard - Snow or you could also argue V

What about GNR? The Use Your Illusion albums were numbers 3 and 4. Personally I like Appetite for Destruction when looking at it as a full album compared to their others. But I think if you look at songs like November Rain, Estranged, Coma, among others that an argument could be made for both UYIs together being their magnum opus.

I'd even argue Thick as a Brick over Aqualung.

I think what would possibly disqualify that album is the notion that adding Buckingham/Nicks and losing members created a totally different band. Heck some bands renamed themselves with less of a change.
Definitely.
They went from being a British blues band to being an American Top 40 pop band with that lineup change.
No comparison between the two styles, just like it was two different bands.
Which it really was.
