Television - what they did in the mid-'70s still holds up.

His early music only played on black radio so he wasn't as well known but that led to influencing Elvis and others. I've always loved the sound of Hey Now Baby and the lyrics of Junco Partner (in addition to his bigger hits like Tipitina and the collaborative Big Chief).

Love Fess. Crawfish Fiesta is a deserted island album for me. Just a perfect album.

Biased, because I love his stuff...Mine is Dave Rawlings. There is no sound as unique as his old 1935 Epiphone. He plays with so much dissonance...nothing like it out there. Completely unique.

Another great choice. He is amazing.

I really like Television, and Days is one of my favorite songs ever, but I cannot see how they are underrated. They get talked about a lot given how few people actually listen to them. Underappreciated? Absolutely.

Yea, I was gonna say everybody I listen to.

I will add a current guy, Benjamin Booker. Not sure why he doesn't get more hype on hear since he is based in NOLA. And he cites the Gun Club as an influence.

I hung around him a lot back in the Acid Bath days, but I think it was after that when his talent really started to blossom. He shits on 95% of the stuff out there, it's pretty comical that he isn't more well-known. He's real comfortable in his own skin though, so he really doesn't want all the fame and the bright lights.

The Hollies-An underrated British Invasion band with criminally underrated instrumentalists. Their three-part vocal harmony was extremely influential and put every other vocal group to shame. Allan Clarke was one of the most powerful lead vocalists of the era and the melodies almost symbolized British rock as much as the Beatles.

Jeff Beck Group-As influential a group or more than Cream in the 2 short years they were together, consisting of arguably the greatest guitarist of all-time, a talented young instrumentalist in Ron Wood, brilliant drummers in Aynsley Dunbar and Micky Waller and the greatest rock singer of the era in Rod Stewart. They accelerated the formation of heavy metal and Led Zeppelin was essentially a carbon copy of the group. Musically, it never got better than these guys in a three-piece(with Cream, The Who and Rush as exceptions).

Sly and the Family Stone-Goes without saying, one of the greatest musicians of all-time, one of the great rhythm sections known to mortal man, multi-racial, multi-gender, countless hits, incredibly influential albums, a great marriage of San Francisco rock with Stax soul. So groundbreaking for the times.

Small Faces/Faces-Incredibly underrated and influential in terms of output, talent and legacy. One of the vanguards of the Mod movement with The Who, they had one of the most underrated singers in Steve Marriott and the venerable Ronnie Lane and Ian McLagen. When Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood joined, they morphed from Mod power pop to incredible Stones-like classic rock and Stay With Me is so debauched and groovy it entices you to dance. Just a soulful group of musicians.

The Raspberries-Terrific power pop outfit with one of the greatest all-time rock songs in Go All The Way. Lends Eric Carmen's career credibility outside of Hungry Eyes. Why they've been excluded from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when they basically set the template for Cheap Trick befuddles me. Maybe they'll have to wait until they reach 75 to get inducted as all these underrated bands seem to do. Another incredible harmony vocal band with solid hard rock crunch.

The Runaways-Possibly more influential a female group than Heart was in the 1970s. Consisting of mainly jailbait teenage girls, they played some of the heaviest rock of the era. Lita Ford and Joan Jett comprised one of the great lead/rhythm guitar duos in history. Trailblazed the path for The Go Gos and The Bangles to incur incredible commericial success and groups that are exclusively female in the band context.

Man. I thought Paper Tongues was gonna take off. Saw them live after "Ride to California" hit the radio in BR at Varsity. Was an incredible show.
