that means going back to something old that is "new" to me,

I can think of many bands like this for me. Even current ones I'm late to the party for. I even find stuff I didn't like the first go around and try it again end up liking it.

Ultravox gave me an appreciation for synth.

The Cure made me want to play in a band.

Allman Brothers Band (original lineup) - I can't even begin to describe how much I fricking love Duane Allman. He is God. Wail on, Skydog!

Grateful Dead

Led Zeppelin

Miles Davis Quintet

Herbie Hancock & the Headhunters

John Prine (not a band, don't care)

Minor Threat/Fugazi. They opened my eyes to a lot things - local music, DIY, the concept of a scene outside the mainstream, music as a community, and awesome awesome AWESOME live shows that will never be topped for me.

Don Cab opened my eyes to a lot of math rock and experimental rock that I wouldn't have heard, such as Battles - Futura, The Advantage, Hella - Try Dis, and more.

I'm not sure how to answer this. I cannot pinpoint one band or multiples that did anything more than another in defining a major outlook, attitude, style, impact, or anything else like that in my life. I had periods where I favored one band or another but influence seems like a strong word.

For me, probably The Mission UK.

And The Cure before that because Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me in 1987 opened my eyes up to a whole world of British new wave, alternative(for the time) music.

Bob Dylan
Led Zeppelen
Grateful Dead
Allman Brothers

Dylan was my first non teen pop music. Seen live a handful of times

Led Zeppelen was my high school obsession. For those who remember AIM my screenname was actually ZoSo because of Jimmy Page

Grateful Dead changed my outlook on life in a way. I became more understanding of other people during the time that I was introducing myself to the Grateful Dead. Seen The Dead, Phil and Friends, Rat Dog, Mickey Hart, Dark Star, Further. I listen to their music every day of my life, probably the only band I do this for.

Allman Brothers was my go to concert in high school. Also attended one when I was 10 years old. Smoked my first joint at their show.

I know not too many people will say that band but they are a great band.

Putting Tower of Strength on right now.

I would have to say The Beatles, The Allman Brothers, Pink Floyd, and The Doors. Due to the fact that my parents raised me on this music and these were the bands that stuck. Also I'd have to say Blind Melon because they were the first band I Discovered on my own.

Excellent. And Butterfly On A Wheel is a tremendous song. Their b-sides and stuff I just discovered are excellent too.

I have gotten several people into these guys.
