there were a lot of things that i thought mattered a lot when i was in my 20's that i don't give a damn about anymore, but music isn't one of them.

Its the same way with me...
Will it be that way when I am pushing 60? Who knows but most 60 year olds I know aren't exactly consumed with the new music coming out today.

I've seen them multiple times such a great show. They used to go by Jukejoint Duo or something along those lines

I could be wrong but I can't imagine getting into my late 50s and still digging for music the way I do now.
i can't imagine NOT doing this...
As much as I LOVE MUSIC I can't see myself DIGGING for music. If I hear it and Like it, well It will be there. BUT I DUG AND DUG for the BEST TUNES I could find back in the 70's. There are SOOO Many songs that NEVER made the radio [back then] that are classics NOW. Todays music JUST SUCKS IMO. If you want to compare... ANYTHING Boston did in 1976 is better than ANY SO-CALLED ROCK today. They were PIONEERS. Todays artists are living off what was before them and they are FAILING. IMO.
OK I am NOW DONE. Thanks for letting me rant.

Your favorites did the same I'm sorry to say. All music is born from its predecessors.

easily the Grateful Dead for me too. they really opened my young ears to something other than mainstream music. they really got my ears and mind searching for something different. I don't listen to them much anymore, but there is no doubt I wouldn't have found my way to the music I listen to today without them, ie bluegrass, jazz, advante garde,

bands that have had a huge impact on my life
Sports teams, either.
Well, other than spending a significant amount of my life on both.

REM - were my Beatles
The Replacements - were my Stones
Uncle Tupelo - in 1990, when I thought I hated anything contemporary and country... They showed me it didn't have to be that way
Superchunk - my go to indie guitar band, stuck to their guns thru it the last 25 years and run, arguably, the greatest, current, record label moment... Merge Records...

Wow, i feel sorry for you.
As far as digging for music, im 34 and still love the thrill of hearing something for the first time. With the access to music on the internet these days, i dont see myself ever not seeking something new.

and people naturally quit searching for new music as they age it happens to everyone.
I respectfully disagree. I grew up on Big Band swing until my teen years. Then, Stones, Beatles, Beach Boys, etc. I didn't start listening to C & W until well into my 40's and then Alt Country in my 50's.
As much as I love the Classic Rock of my youth, you can only hear Stairway to Heaven and Free Bird so many times before you need a little break.

Wait until you're 57 and see if you still enjoy searching for new music...
I'll be sure and report back to you, and I'll have some quality suggestions for you at that.
You have no idea the realm and scope of some peoples capacity of music.... not being condescending or a dick, i'm just sayin, for some people music is everything, and always has been
Well I'm up there in years (still pretty much of a badass, however) and I enjoy new music. Now I don't have the time to search it out like I used to, but I like to discover new stuff. Latest live show I saw was The Kills and I like them a lot. And, shite, I saw The Jimi Hendrix Experience play at Hirsch Coliseum in Shreveport for God's sake.
