A more equal comparison for either of them would be Spinal Tap.

I hear you but Bon Jovi is not even halfway there. Girl music if there ever was.

No Leppards definitely better. I was just saying their older stuff is better than everything after the accident.

There is no fair comparison to The Smiths.

Love the 80s, but like very little of those listed. of them,

Cougar
Tears For Fears(this was tough, but The Cure just doesn't hold up well for me)
Hall and Oats
The Cars(Best group/artist listed)

The best matchup would probably be The Smiths vs. REM.

Steve Winwood vs. Bruce Hornsby - Winwood's best work was in the 60's.
John Cougar Mellenkamp vs Bruce Springsteen
Tears for Fears vs. The Cure - tough call
Hall and Oates vs. Lionel Richie
Talking Heads vs The Cars - very difficult call
Peter Gabriel vs. Tom Waits

The rest, I have no opinion on.

The Replacements

If you listened to college or alternative radio in the 80s you couldn't escape these bands. If you didn't listen to college or alternative radio in the 80s you never heard one song from either of them.

Mötley Crüe shouldn’t be paired with Poison. Poison was much lighter, pop oriented and bubble gum. The Crüe was harder, heavier, and as a whole, the subject matter of their music was much more serious and hard edged. For example: “Wild Side” vs. “Nothin’ But A Good Time”..... “East L.A. at midnight, papa won’t be home tonight, found dead with his best friend’s wife” vs. “Ain’t looking for nothing but a good time and it don’t get better than this”.
A more appropriate comparison would be The Crüe vs. Guns ‘n Roses or RATT.

Fair feedback. I figured Ratt would be a whitewash in favor or Motley Crue. I was trying to pair similar style and success.

One thing that's surprising me is how many people are taking Prince over Michael Jackson. Prince obviously a transcendent talent, but Jackson is one of the biggest music stars in the history of music.

I almost did that but then picked both. For me, Prince has a deeper catalogue. I really don’t care for anything Michael Jackson did after Thriller though it was still enormously popular. Thriller and Off Wall are so good though. Also I’m sure the whole pedo stuff hurts as well
