I listen to a lot of classic 80s music and have thought about how I'd choose between some of the greats from the 80s if paired head to head. How would you land on the below head to head matchups? Thinking just about their work from the decade of the 80s...

Steve Winwood vs. Bruce Hornsby

Bon Jovi vs Def Leppard

Bryan Adams vs. Eddie Money

John Cougar Mellenkamp vs Bruce Springsteen

Tears for Fears vs. The Cure

Hall and Oates vs. Lionel Richie

Depeche Mode vs. Duran Duran

Motley Crue vs Poison

Wham vs Culture Club

Talking Heads vs The Cars

Prince vs. Michael Jackson

Peter Gabriel vs. Tom Waits

Good one for sure. I felt like I needed to get back to work so stopped where I did

But I'd probably cast my vote for The Outfield. Your Love was my go to bar song for quite some time. I was also remiss in including The Smiths in one of these matchups, and they're fantastic. I just couldn't figure out their parallel.

I wasn't offering a choice between the two. I would choose both and The Smiths.

High N Dry and Pyromania are their 2 best albums. Hysteria is a close 3rd. Everything after is horrible.

I hear you but Bon Jovi is not even halfway there. Girl music if there ever was. It’s like bad medicine.

Winwood
Def Leppard
Eddie Money
Mellencamp (Springsteen would win the 70s but Mellancamp wins the 80s. Everything he put out from American Fool through The Lonesome Jubilee was fire. After the live box set everything else Springsteen did in the 80s was meh at best.)
Tears for Fears
Hall and Oates
Duran Duran
Meteor
Asteroid
Talking Heads (The Cars best two albums were released in 1978 and 1979.)
Prince
Peter Gabriel

Steve Winwood
Def Leppard
Bryan Adams
Mellankamp
Tears for Fears
Hall and Oates
Duran Duran
Wham
Talking Heads and Cars ( not choosing bro)
Motley Crue
Michael Jackson
Peter Gabriel

A lot of shite on none of my play lists.

Steve Winwood Arc of A Diver ( 1980 ) would probably be my favorite album from those artists in that decade. Edit- missed The Talking Heads and Cars in there. Obviously both peaked although the Heads peaked for an entire decade.

Mötley Crüe shouldn’t be paired with Poison. Poison was much lighter, pop oriented and bubble gum. The Crüe was harder, heavier, and as a whole, the subject matter of their music was much more serious and hard edged. For example: “Wild Side” vs. “Nothin’ But A Good Time”..... “East L.A. at midnight, papa won’t be home tonight, found dead with his best friend’s wife” vs. “Ain’t looking for nothing but a good time and it don’t get better than this”.
A more appropriate comparison would be The Crüe vs. Guns ‘n Roses or RATT.
