Take out the lyrics and listen to him play the guitar. He is unbelievable with the guitar. Definitely top 5 of post 1990, imo. But his lyrics just make it hard to listen to.

I floated the river today and was embarassed when he showed up on my Randy Rogers/Turnpike Troubadours Pandora. He's awful. Definitely not RRB/TT caliber. Unfortunately, the general public doesn't get it.
