I've been a fan since Justice and something tells me this might be the end of Metallica.

It appears that as long haired James began to reemerge so did his old habits.

Really though that is too bad. I'm sure he'll be back.

The walk on the wild side leads to mental breakthroughs in song form after some time in reflection for some musicians. I haven't seen Metallica live since 2004, but would like to go again.

Drunks relapse at a pretty damned high rate. That’s just talking about your average schmuck. Imagine being in a touring rock band. Even at 50, alcohol and pussy getting thrown at you constantly.

Not a recipe for success. Although people do it.

Alcoholism is a cruel illness and an equal opportunity disease. It doesn't care if you're an atop-the-world pro and famous musician, or say an average schmuck who might for example fix musical instruments for both pros and schmuck hobbyists.

I hit four years of continuous sobriety in six days, after abusing alcohol for well over 20 years. If James seeking help again turns into another Metallica documentary, and by chance helps to get a "drunk" into sober living, even for just a short stint, GOOD.

I was surprised James signed off on the licensing for that Metallica beer (Enter Night) and the Metallica whiskey (Blackened). Figured he must try to stay away from any temptations. Probably that damn Lars chasing them dollars.

Would have loved to see them at their height of partying in the 80s and early 90s. Only saw them in 2003, 2005 and 2009.

He had like close to 15 years of sobriety if I remember correctly. You're never cured though. It's always there waiting. Glad he's going back as opposed to giving up.

Yeah I believe they rolled it out starting in 2018. He didn’t even make it a year.

This video popped up in my YouTube recommendations last light. It’s Metallica in the tuning room with the title “drink our whiskey”. James is clearly drinking at the start and besides looking like he’s been on a bender, he acts pretty drunk too. It was pretty sad watching it.

They've dabbled with alcohol for a while though. Budweiser did something with them years back IIRC.

It’s possible but Blackened whiskey was definitely launched last year. IMO it was incredibly shortsighted to get into the booze biz when your frontman is a recovering alcoholic. He was sober going on 17 years I believe so it’s been within the last year that he fell off the wagon.

Yeah I thought it was odd at the time. Interesting to see how they handle it from here.

I heard a commercial for Blackened on Howard Stern and I thought it was a joke at first.
