Phish invented the modern day music fest

He's the smartest and most knowledgeable Baton Rouge music scene mover-and-shaker around

Im glad you finally do. See what happens when you put aside stubbornness and see things rationally.

Once again Burt, who are you?

I really don't think that the 'music scene' was changed around Phish. There aren't a ton of popular jam bands. If Phish were so damn important then there would be more of their style music around. And, as pointed out numerous times by numerous people, there simply isn't a lot of it out there.
You're way off dude. There are WAY too many jambands and phish is the main reason. They showed you could support yourself by jamming and not going the typical route. So i pretty much disagree with everything you just said.

fricking Jazz Fest has been doing it longer than Phish has been around and are far more of a blue print...
Even Lollapalooza (even when it was still of a touring festival) is more of a template and to a lesser extent the hippy version, H.O.R.D.E.

How can you just ignore a festival that has been going on since 1970, sold 70,000 tickets in 1990 and increased to over 100,000 by the end of the century as the basis for how to do it successfully?
You don't think phish might have seen the continued success of this and gotten the idea to do their own.

Jeez, I leave to perform a surgery for an hour and this thread blows up
Phish DID invent the modern day festival. Superfly, who puts on Bonnaroo, has been quoted as saying this.
Jazz Fest doesn't have camping, brah.

Glastonbury has camping. And America is usually just after Europe as far as our musical evolution. 1990's Europe festival success leads to American Music festival boom.

And what about Woodstock 1969?
