Before they went on hiatus, Phish had done a bunch of festivals. They set us up with their production manager and design director.

So Phish's production manager and design director also did Bonnaroo.

Glastonbury has camping. And America is usually just after Europe as far as our musical evolution. 1990's Europe festival success leads to American Music festival boom.

Exactly. These dudes make me laugh though.

I refer to Woodstock and he starts talking about Woodstock '99

Phish certainly played their part in the last 15 years.

But to sit there and say they fricking invented the music festival is completely ridiculous

They only had one real one. the other was for anyone wanting to get up there. Probably lots of crappy poetry.

The oldest annual pop Music Festival in the world is Pinkpop Festival from the Netherlands, though other genres are older - the Three Choirs Festival has run annually since 1719.

That's just fine.

Where the hell did Phish get its blueprint then? They just fabricated it out of thin air?

Even more difficult... it was a festival. multiple stages, side shoes, art, etc... traveling and festival are not exclusive terms...

but if you want to limit it to hippy festivals in the woods so people can sleep in filth... i'll give it to Phish... Forefathers of the modern day hippy pig slop festival..
