I was thinking about the local New Orleans rock scene in the 90s

I'm trying to remember some of the bands that hit it big locally, but never moved on to national fame.
I got to know a few of these bands from going to shows at places like Jimmy's Uptown and the Howlin' Wolf.
I used to have a CD with singles from a bunch of local rock bands like
Garaj Mahal
Smack
Wirehead
and others that I can't remember. I wish I could find that CD
Then there were metal bands like Soilent Green and EyeHateGod.
Or bands like Frigg a GoGo out of Lafayette and Egg Yolk Jubilee (RIP Michael Joseph).
Any others that yall can think of?

World Leader Pretend had a run. May have been earlier 2000s

I was in a band called Nemesys around the late 90’s early 2000’s. We played with face, Demise, Soilent Green, Deadboy and the Elephantmen, MP79, Shanni Sane, Organized Hostility, and a bunch of others I can’t remember at the moment.

Saw what had to be one of the last Acid Bath shows sometime after Audie died at Jimmy's. They played with a band called Floodgate (I think) that was local and a crazy chick-led act called Crisis.
James Hall had a band called Pleasure Club back then that was killer. His bands usually are, though.

I remember them. I think they were from Baton Rouge or Denham? I remember bumping into the guitarist at SLU (Hammond) when I was there.

Didn't Deadeye Dick come out of there?

Yup. I remember The Zephyr used to play them a lot.

I remember them. My friends brother was heavily wrapped up in that scene. He played in a band called (no joke) Eat a Bag of Dicks. In case you ever crossed paths.

They were actually really good. I was surprised they never could break out of the NOLA scene

I remember them from right before Katrina. I liked the instrumental band Mexico 1910 from that period too.

Silent Green is well respected in the metal scene and toured extensively around the country and the world. They did a reunion show in New Orleans a few weeks ago and nearly sold out Southport Hall. They did a few festivals earlier in the year too.
EHG are one of the originators of sludge metal and continue to tour the world today.
Both bands have done arena shows with Pantera in the 90s and early 00s.

Some tragedies in there with a couple former members:
Original vocalist Glenn Rambo died during Katrina (couldn’t find many details). Longtime bassist Scott Williams was killed in a murder-suicide around 2004 by his male roommate (some sources say “companion” or “partner”).
I was introduced to that scene right at the tail end circa 2003-2005, if we mark Katrina as kinda the bookend. Too young to really appreciate it, but the little bands I was in were definitely trying to books shows at The Green Room and The Dark Room…which we were way WAY too young to be at haha.

Glenn Rambo drowned in his house. I believe he lived with his mom in the 9th ward.
Scott Williams was shot by his boyfriend. They did a tribute show for him with Goatwhore opening for Soilent Green. Another band called Valume Knob with Kirk Weindstein on bass and a couple other local bands played. It was an awesome show.

I was a little later. My hs friends played at the dark room in the late 2000’s, and I played regularly at The Green Room circa 2010-2012.
There’s a few bands that we played with which stuck out, but the best band we played with from the New Orleans area at the time was easily Luke Starkiller.
What I seem to remember most was the majority of the metal bands at the time sounding like bad Pantera wannabees who couldn’t eq their amps to save their lives. I spent many nights awkwardly hanging out outside The Green Room just waiting for the crappy band inside to finish their set. Granted, my band wasn’t really much better
