I know it varies greatly, but was watching a cover band at the Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi Friday and my buddy asked me how much money I guessed they were making?

It was 4 piece band out of NOLA. Not a big turnout, they were playing at the bar, seemed like a solid cover band. I'm guessing the pay would be similar to what a band at Lauberge makes on a weekend night.

Care to educate me? Just curious.

I would bet a big name band like Zoso or the Molly Ringwalds make $5-10k a show. Smaller bands might just get a piece of the door.

I know the molly ringwalds just got paid $8000 for a private party at Lauberge. But that's the molly ringwalds, also paid by someone who I would assume over paid.

This is correct for the main ones (Molly, Donuts and such). Small ones get door or small fee plus cut of door.

Depends on the venue and the band.

Local BR band playing the Cadillac each member will pull 100-200 dollars.

Same band playing L'auberge Edge bar will make around 250-300 per person.

Chee-weez playing the big room at L'auberge will get 700-ish per member.

Yeah his own band gets 2-3k which kind of pissed me off if I think about it too much.

My own band varies between 4 and 8 hundred but play a lot of original and even covers we don't try to have our own style to it. Soooo we don't play weddings or attempt to do this for cover band money.

But to fill up some of these 3+ hour gigs we learn plenty of covers..

Private events and Weddings are where the money is, even for bands doing original material.

More often than I'd care to admit

However, when we're booking a real show that isn't a favor to someone, we usually charge at least $300 for 90 minutes of music. We don't have enough solid material to play for 3 hours like the big boy cover bands, so we can't charge those kinds of prices.

Whether its a band or any other business, when you are required to deal with a future bride, or even worse the future bride's mother any premium in price you can get is justified.
