Have any of you experienced a change in musical taste as you age?

I’m in my early 50’s and for most of my life if it was not Priest, Maiden, Sabbath, Kiss, Scorpions, etc then I wanted nothing to do with it. I only liked rock from the 70’s thru mid 80’s. Now I find myself being pulled towards more calm, relaxing music like SteelyDan or Christopher Cross. Hell, my XM stays on Yacht Rock or The Bridge instead of Ozzys Boneyard. Is this normal. InB4 “you’re turning into a pussy!”

I think we all do.
You start with the music you loved in your prime. 17-25 or so. You listen to that for a while. Then switch to stuff from childhood.
Seattle music for me gave way to 70’s music. The new stuff I like sounds like older music.

I go in cycles between pop punk, jazz/funk, and vintage sounding/garage/classic rock

Well, I went the other way. I did listen to a lot of metal and hard rock in high school (late 70s - early 80s). Maiden, Priest, Scorpions, hell yeah. But I got into jazz around then too and then spent about 20 years going deeper and deeper into that. Got into a fair bit of adventurous, avant garde stuff that opened up my ears. That was also the time that 80s hair bands started dominating the more known metal scene and I lost interest.
Then in my early 40s I got back into metal with a vengeance. Just turned 58 and I the stuff I listen to now is more extreme than I would have gone when 18. Part of that is just the evolution in music but I don't think my ears would have been ready for Opeth, then Jinjer etc then.
But Steely Dan has ALWAYS been great.

It is not even that my musical taste has changed. I cannot stand the music I used to listen to in high school and early college. I used to like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, 311, etc. Now, I change the station immediately if it comes on. I do not know why but something clicked on day and I no longer like them.

The older I get the worse the current music gets. I don't blame it on my age, but rather the crappy current music (or what passes for music these days). And get off my lawn.

Turned 50 last month and still listen to the same 60s-80s rock (soft, hard and heavy) and early 90s grunge. Not much has changed for me...yet.

Grew up listening to ‘80s music, and now I primarily listen to retrowave/synthpop. Best of both worlds!

Not really
I hated contemporary music (synth, hair bands, yacht rock) when I was young ('80s). Hated heavy metal as well (can't stand the shrieking vocals). I presume I need not give my opinion of rap.
As long as I can remember I was drawn to the music of the '60s (British Invasion, garage rock). I eventually discovered, in Little Steven's words, "the bands that influenced The Ramones, the bands influenced by The Ramones, and the Ramones."
I was always fairly open to older music, at least compared to other kids, and I enjoyed watching musicals like West Side Story and Singin' In The Rain. So it's not surprising I eventually moved on to the Great American Songbook.
Probably the biggest musical change from my youth is a typical one for my generation -- I grew to be a fan of country music, at least of the honky tonk era ('50s, '60s) as well as old timey stuff.
I still listen to Ramones, NY Dolls, Pistols etc occasionally, so I haven't totally wimped out. And I take great pride in still hating yacht rock.

Absolutely. Led Zeppelin was my favorite band in the late 80s, Pearl Jam for most of the 90s, and My Bloody Valentine for most of the 00s.
I've always liked bands like Steely Dan and Hall and Oates. But I fell in love with Bossa Nova about 10 years ago and that led me towards Jazz. My favorite band right now is Khruangbin.
Other than New Wave from the 80s and Yacht Rock, Bossa Nova and Jazz are about all that I listen to, even though I've grown to appreciate a lot of country music from the 60s,70s, and early 80s.

I grew up in the 80s and 90s, so hard rock/ grunge, alternative is my go-to. I can't listen to much classic rock anymore, I'm about worn slick on it. Way back when, I'd discover several new bands a year. I rarely discover new music that I really love. Some is good, but I rarely become obsessed with something new like I used to.
I have become "obsessed" with Billy Strings, which is funny because, I've never been into that style of music before. When I discovered BS, it was truly like a gift, because I haven't discovered music/ a musician that I've enjoyed that much in along time. Maybe, I just don't enjoy music as much as I used too, or maybe I'm just old I don't know.

What do you consider punk? I still listen to Blondie, Talking Heads, Joy Division, Pixies. I've just never been into "angry noise", whether that's metal, rap, or punk.
I like music that's easy to chill and unwind to.

I went on an Ozzy kick a few days ago seeing as I haven't listened to him in awhile. Picked a couple or three songs off about ten different albums. Reminded me how awesome the man is.
As for the thread topic, my taste has always been fairly broad which is why I own almost a thousand cds. I'm more into female fronted metal bands currently, especially if they do harsh vocals like Jinjer, Ad Infinitum, and Arch Enemy. I'm also more into pop than I would have been years ago. Artists like The Weeknd, Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, and Dua Lipa are in rotation.
