I've been getting back into some Hank the last few days.
He cranked out some hits.

OD'd in Denver & Whisky Bent & Hell Bound are my top two.
He does a really good version of the Bee Gees 'You Don't What It's Like' too.

I'd love for him to comeback and have an awesome album again. Maybe he could do something with Rick Rubin ala Cash.

If you haven't already heard them, you should check out two of his early albums:
Hank Jr and Friends
The New South

Got to see him live 3 times in the 80s. One time I was staying at the same hotel as his crew. Saw Merl Kilgore at breakfast the next morning.

I've enjoyed most of his stuff since I was a kid. I'm 40 now, and still love him.
The older I get the more I get into his deeper album tracks rather than his "big" songs. He has a lot of showmanship and "fluff" with him, and he's almost become a caricature of himself these days. But if you strip all that away, he is super super talented as a singer and a musician. Growing up in his father's shadow had to take a toll on him, and I believe it took him a while to find his groove.
My favorite song of his is "All in Alabama"
Other's I like-
Mr. Weatherman
Man of Steel
Major Moves
This interview from TNN way back sheds a little light on what he went through growing up:

When I was about 15, I was stopped at an intersection in our little town with my younger siblings in the truck, when the Bocephus tour bus passed through. shite, man, that was like seeing Elvis or Santa Claus for our area. We became minor celebrities just because we saw the bus.

The Pressure is on is my favorite album of his.

My favorite country entertainer by far. He has tons of album cuts that were never released as singles that are fantastic. Arms of cocaine, Montana Cafe, and the most obvious- Dinosaur to name just a couple. And he was right in the best song off of Wild Streak!

One Night Stands is also fantastic
Also this one. One Night Stands, New South, and Whiskey Bent and Hell bound are his most complete albums

In 1967, he came out with Standing in the Shadows, basically his response to critics comparing him unfavorably to his daddy.
This is an incredible song (and the pedal steel will tear your arse up.) He drew a line with this song, and after this, he pretty much became the Bocephus we all know.
It is a beautiful, haunting tune.

quote:
I know that I'm not great and some say I imitate
Anymore I don't know I'm just doing the best I can
After all I'm standing in the shadows of a very famous man
As I travel around from town to town
I have a lot of dad's fans and friends come around
They say I know Hank would be proud of you if he were here today
Now well we're all so glad and we know he would be too
That you're carryin' on his music this way
Yes they say Hank was the all time great
And we know you'll be just as good as your dad
But I just smile and say there'll never be another Hank Williams friends
That's the part that always makes them sad
Yes I know that I'm not great and some say I imitate
Anymore I don't know I'm just doing the best I can
It's hard standing in the shadows of a very famous man
So many times when I'm on that stage I feel something go through me
And for a minute I'm in a different world and that's when it does something to me
The people are a hollering and clapping real aloud
While I'm out they're taking my bows
I look up toward the ceiling and I say to myself listen dad just listen to that crowd
But as the show goes on the people clap and holler more
I start singing another of your great songs
That's the time that I know although you're gone your music will live on and on and on
