Maybe overrated is a bit too strong but guitarists that just didn't do it for you. I'm sure to get a lot of static but come at me bro, Jimmy Hendrix is one to me. Maybe I just didn't "get" him but he never really wowed me.
Also The Edge of U2. Don't get me wrong, I love U2 as a band and some of their songs are good but as a guitarist, again, he just didn't do it for me.
Those are the two that came to mind. What you got?

Edited for clarity. Hendrix was a great guitar player, he just didn't impress me with his style. Sort of like a person that goes to a bar and listens to a band that plays a genre they don't care for. The next day they claim the band sucked.....but the band was really good at what they did....the person just didn't like their style. Doesn't mean that the band sucked.

Apparently you can't hear Jimi. The Edge and Tom Morello, but they've already been talked about on here recently. So I'm gonna go with a guy I've tried to get into but he just doesn't do it for me.

Joe Bonamassa.

Who in the hell has ever rated Paul Stanley? If anyone ever talks about a Kiss guitarist it is always Ace Frehley.

Seems to me, if someone wants to shoot down another picker's ability, they should post an example of their own fantastic playing for comparison.

I've always kinda liked the saying.. you dont have to be an apple to know what one tastes like!

With that, I've never been a fan of that derivative, 70's, blues based, hard rock guitar... pretty broad brush and as usual, there are exceptions... but most of those old "guitar gods" don't do much for me... not to say they aren't talented..

What does that have to do with guitar players? Guitar players aren't apples, and most like to play different styles. Just because you don't like their style, doesn't mean they aren't good at what they want to do.

Let's say you don't think for example, Clapton's Lay Down Sally is good...I would like to hear your improved version. You might convince me that way.

It means I don't have to play guitar to know what I like... pretty simple..

I don't need to convince you of anything... It's simply my own opinion. I would never try to tell you what and what not to like.

edit: And I would never tell a guitar player how to play, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.

Then the title of this thread should be " Guitar players that you don't like very much, even if you can't play as well."

I would change it to "I can't play guitar and I wish these other people would have never picked one up"

but I didnt start the thread...

well, that's cool, at least you admit it, but don't be the Siskel or Ebert of guitar music. That's a bad look.

Nah... I'll go ahead and keep having opinions on what I like and don't like...

The bad look, is being an overly sensitive guitar player...

No one is saying these are terrible people or they should put down their instruments... It's just a discussion on what people like.. disagreements will be had!
