I was 7 years old and my mom got this for me..i liked explosions and blood...pretty sure I could not understand more than 10% of the words.

And liked metal since then..

“Shout At The Devil”, the song and the album, absolutely hooked me on metal.

There really isn't one. The fact that so many of my friends were into these bands in the 80s has left me with a pretty strong dislike for the genre.

Then why even comment in this thread???

I was listening to Sabbath/Ozzy, AC/DC, Zeppelin but then I heard Maiden’s Piece of Mind and it took me to another level. Backtracked to The Number of the Beast and I was hooked for life.

Piece of Mind is the one that really pulled me into metal, too.

Early VH had me on the cusp and primed for it though.

Then years later, Opeth reeled me into even heavier stuff.

To say that, despite growing up in the 80s and having a ton of exposure to this type of music, other than a 4 or 5 year period where I pretty much only listened to Led Zeppelin, I've never cared for the genre.

Is that okay with you?

Not exactly metal, but it bridged the gap quickly. Not many years later was in the pit for a Cannibal Corpse set and then Motörhead right after.

Little surprised this one didn't come up yet.

I grew up in a rural area dominated by country and Cajun music. Hard rock was hard to come by, other than in magazines at the grocery store or pharmacy. Boston and Styx were about the hardest you'd ever hear on local radio.

I got the cassette tape 1984 by Van Halen. The song that captured me was House of Pain on the B side.

I never really heard jam that hard, and it resonated with me, wondering how I could ever share music like that with my friends, who were into Conway Twitty and Ronnie Milsap.

I’ve always liked hard rock, but this one got me into metal:

Metallica S&M

I was hoping someone would dare mention 96-99 Metallica. I discovered Garage Inc in 98, then when S&M came out I got the VHS, then I immediately decided I was going to get a guitar

I know exactly what got me into hard rock. It was AC/DC - If You Want Blood You've Got It, and then later Highway to Hell.

Around that time my best friend got a gold 1978 Trans Am from his mother. The problem for him was that he was still 15. My birthday came first and I got a driver's license months before him, so I drove us around in his T/A cranking AC/DC and feeling cool.

What's funny is that since that time, I've hardly listened to the Highway to Hell album, so whenever I hear songs like Walk All Over You, Girls Got Rhythm, Shot Down in Flames, and Night Prowler, I'm instantly transported back to 1980, cruising around in a ridiculously cool (for a teenager) gold T/A.
