Dirt and Sap are masterpieces. People give Nirvana credit for killing hair metal... but really, Dirt had already done the job. What a terrific album.

What a tough choice. Both bands had a ton of potential to be great but seemed to settle for good. (I always thought Audioslave was better). I'll have to take Soundgarden by a nose.

I'd say Dirt captures the whole grunge scene/mood/essence more than any other album of that time. Not even my favorite album of theirs but there's no denying the feelings when listening to it.

AIC for me all day any day.

Although I love Alice in Chains, I will have to give the nod to Soundgarden.

I never got the love for AIC ... kind of an annoying cheesy band at the time. Now "Jesus Christ Pose" .... AIC had nothing close to that.

And one band is still performing while .... you know the rest.

Not really, they were an interesting band with a closer tie to a punk sound... the two in this thread were basically metal bands from Seattle...
