GOAT

Saw him live once, in about 1983. Came on stage pissed off at the world for some reason, and promptly blew the top of the skull off of every person in the hall. Best guitar playing I've ever heard, before or since.

My favorite Lightnin' video. He's just chillin on the couch, little to much to drink prolly, but damn at the sounds he gets out of that acoustic. That hair tho!

The Texas blues man Mr Sam Lightnin' Hopkins. My all time favorite

Charley Patton-The father of the delta blues
Skip James
Elmore James-The king of the slide guitar
Willie Dixon
Robert Johnson- The Goat

These guys paved the way and opened a lot of doors.

Mississippi Fred McDowell Shak'em on Down
Going down the River

R.L. Burnside jumper hangin on the line
Junior Kimbrough done got old
And many many more from just these 3.
I agree with one of the posters on page 2. It's hard to beat the hill country blues. They took some things from the Delta blues, tweaked it and made it their own.
Here's another one that hard to find music of his but it's as old school as old school gets.
Belton Sutherland

Surprised it took so lon to get to Willie Dixon!

Another one I have always liked is Tampa Red. I would link a few of his songs but have no clue how on my phone.

My best friend and I drove to the Warehouse in '70 or '71 (IIRC) to see Buddy Miles Express. Buddy didn't show and Freddie King played nearly 3 hours straight. We were completely gassed by his performance.

1. Albert King
2. Muddy Waters (early Muddy)
3. B.B. King

after that, in no particular order:
Hound Dog Taylor
Little Milton
Freddie King
Junior Wells
Willie Dixon
early Buddy Guy (cannot stand his later years)
Little Walter
T-Bone Walker

My all time favorite musician, blues or otherwise, is Gatemouth Brown.

Same here. The only reason I didn't list him is the otherwise part. Blues was only one small part.
