His stuff was legit whiny, but man what an artist. Wish I had .001% of his talent. Shame he wasn’t long for this world.

Never heard of him but just checked him out on you tube and it’s not for me. I’d much rather listen to Dax Riggs.

I feel like when the topic comes up, the majority of the opinions have him in high regard... He was a phenomenally talented guy...

he’s a goat for me. I don’t listen to him as much as I did when I was younger, but still love his music.

I remember rushing out after seeing good will hunting in high school, and buying his early albums. When I listen to him now it’s a major nostalgia trip back to my youth in the mid to late 90’s.

I was pretty late to the party on Elliott, and still haven’t digested all of his stuff. But, whiny or not, good songs are good songs, and dude was pretty talented. Some of the best songwriters didn’t have the greatest voices, but if it’s pure and from the heart, that’s where it’s at. See Nick Drake.

I don't equate "good singer" with "able to hit all the notes operatically". A machine can make Lil Wayne a good singer nowadays.

Elliott was good at his lo-fi shite.

Christian Brothers is my favorite song by him.

Nothing can make Lil Waybe a good singer. Autotune can cover up inability, but it still sounds like a shitty singer being autotuned.

Exactly what I did. Very evocative songs.

I was a tad too late. I think I got into him sometime in 2005 when I saw he contributed to the movie Thumbsucker. I loved the songs on there and bought one of his albums, XO. After that, I went on to buy every album he's put out. My favorite is probably Either / Or.

He was a great songwriter and ahead of his time IMO. The way he died was so sad...I know he struggled with substance abuse and depression but all sources say he was over that and happy at the time of his death. I can't imagine the things he'd have done / be doing if he was still alive.

I saw him play at the Howlin' Wolf in 2000. It was like a reunion of people who were picked last for gym class. He hung out at the bar after the show, regret not going up to him and telling him how much his music meant to me. Kids, depression is tough.
