Did you have a Dave Matthews Band phase?

I was certainly around the crowd that were obsessed with DMB back in high school and to a lesser extent college. I bought Before These Crowded Streets when it came out and liked it at the time well enough but never really got into it to the extent my friends did. Nowadays I feel pretty indifferent towards them. Don’t hate em but it’s not something I’d ever purposefully listen to.

DMB was never my favorite band, but I have always enjoyed their music and live shows.

I was a really big fan from the mid-90's to somewhere in the mid-naughties. I probably went to 15-20 Dave shows during that time. Now I feel about like you do. I'm pretty indifferent. They're still on my playlist but with 16,000 other songs, DMB doesn't pop up too often. I don't ever plop down on the couch and go, "You know...I could really use some Dave right now."

Yeah about 6 years ago or so (so only like 15 to 20 years after everyone else) I like Dave but I’m burned out on his music and the new album isn’t very good.

I was following Phish around in 1994. I had heard DMB a few times on bootlegs so was kind of excited to see them open for Phish at Oak Mountain. Then I encountered their custy arse Dbag frat boy fan base and my enthusiasm waned. Show was alright and them joining Phish for Maker was awesome.

For a few years in the 90s. I got into them when Remember Two Things came out and I worked at The Georgia Theatre and Uptown Lounge in Athens. I worked the night they filmed Ants Marching video at the Theatre. I got to walk them over to the Uptown Lounge around 5pm to do a filmed interview session at the bar and later worked backstage before and after the concert. Got to party with the band (with about 50 other folks)after the show was over. That place was on fire that night and it is a great memory for me.
Like others in this thread, the novelty wore off early 2000s. I still like their music but don’t espouse them as a top band anymore. They had their time and place and it was fun.

Yep. I liked them a lot in high school. Graduated 2004.

Nope. They never clicked for me. Friends thought I was crazy.

Closest thing to a phase was getting absolutely shitfaced off 2 cases of Natty Ice we snuck into Jazz Fest 2006. I remember a slutty blonde and "Tripping Billies."

Yeah, but they were still a bar band when I went through it. I saw them a few times after Under the Table came out, and lost interest. My wife and I did go see them a few years ago with friends and we really enjoyed it. They're talented, just not my thing anymore.

Nope

Yes; but I grew up in Virginia in the early 90s; saw DMB at fraternity parties at UVA.

Eh, I always thought they were kind of cheesy.
StickyFingaz is the primary DMB guy of this board fwiw.

Even at the height of my DMB fandom I hated this song. When it was played as an encore, that was my cue to GTFO. The only song I disliked more was Crash Into Me.
