The Shangri-Las - "I Can Never Go Home Anymore"
Supposedly this is the least requested top 10 hit (non-novelty) on oldies radio

Not necessarily my go-to depressing song, but Nirvana’s “You Know You’re Right” is pretty harrowing. Listening to Kurt wail, “Pain, you know, you’re right,” and knowing he killed himself shortly after recording it has a way of dampening the mood.

Pink Floyd- Nobody home
Mickey Lamantia- I chose the whiskey
The Who- Behind blue eyes
Desperados waiting for a train (reminds me of an old neighbor I had)- Steve Earle (probably my favorite version) or Jerry Jeff Walker

Songs must deal with human beings. No one cares if they die.
