The Middle East - Blood

Grandfather, weary soul, you'll fly
Over your life once more before you die
Since our grandma passed away
You've waited for forever and a day
Just to die
And someday soon
You will die
It was the only woman you ever loved
That got burnt by the sun too often when she was young
And the cancer spread
And it ran into her body and her blood
And there's nothing you can do about it now

Love this one. I caught Deer Tick playing early in the day a few years back at Beale St. Music Fest. Really enjoyed that, especially since McCauley was sober for the set.

Which unsurprisingly is my favorite Springsteen album.

I already posted in this thread once, but I will do so again. The entirety of eels’ Electro-Shock Blues album is difficult to listen to once you realize that it was written in response to Mark Everett’s sister’s suicide and his mother’s battle with and eventual death from lung cancer. This passage in particular from “Dead of Winter” always hits me hard:

So I know you’re going pretty soon
Radiation sore throat got your tongue
Magic markers tattoo you, and show it where to aim
And strangers break their promises
“You won’t feel any pain.”
