I would count George Jones as a notable admission. Art Garfunkel as another. Connie Francis as a third.

The top five listed seems perfectly acceptable to me. I'm sure I can find something to quibble about when I go through the list. BRB.

ETA: A bunch of vocalists in the middle that should be better ranked. The dude from Bad Brains doesn't belong in the top ten. Beyonce doesn't belong anywhere near the top ten. Lastly, The Weeknd isn't on the list? What a crock of shite. I might also make a case that Taylor Swift and Post Malone deserve a spot.

Another ETA: Ozzy should be higher, so should Ariana Grande. No James Hetfield? Who the frick is Judee Sill?

Of course this is subjective, but to me Robert Plant is horrible
His voice is the main reason I don't like Zeppelin, just mindless wailing
Downvote away

Also no way this list would ever include many of the amazing vocal talents in metal music

I probably like Plant's voice as much as anyone does and think it is misplaced here. As an example, I can see the argument for Aretha, Whitney or Marvin Gaye for #1 (as well as Mercury), and likewise, Boston's Brad Delp or Heart's Ann Wilson.

Chris Cornell is criminally underrated. And there are a ton of folks on the cusp of pop and rock (e.g. Linda Ronstadt) that might warrant a mention in any Top 10/Top 15 list.

ETA: Looking at the full list and they just can't help themselves. Beyonce at #6? Mike Patton at #8 and Roy Orbinson at #11? While both unique voices, I doubt anyone seriously considers them legit Top #10 vocalists, even limiting to modern music genres.

Rob Halford? Fantastic, but a spot above Ray Charles? Mariah Carey at 15, which is NINE spots below Beyonce? If Beyonce woke up tomorrow with 1/16th the vocal ability of Mariah, she would die of utter shock.

Hank Williams (Sr.) at #16? Again, as unique and influential as it gets, but not in the league of folks well behind him in this ranking (just take the next 3 after him are James Brown, Adele and Cornell - at Hank senior being a better singer, other than literally of his own songs, than any of them.)

This is a "Rolling Stones Magazine" quality list. (FYI - That's a significant insult.)

I’ll give my opinion

List is actually OK. Some I don’t agree with. Of course the order is bad for some like Kurt Cobain #25 and Otis Redding # 26. Kurt doesn’t belong at all IMO.
HR at number 10

I went over the whole list just to make sure Chris Cornell #19 was on it. Pleasantly surprised to see Layne Staley #55.

Kendrick Lamar #20

Joe Strummer?
Only omission I can think of that's offensive is Burton Cummings.

I can hear their discussion. "No, if we leave out Bowie all together, they'll just say we forgot. But put him way down, after Dylan... now that will piss people off."

In 5 years it'll be totally different. There's always a "death factor" involved.

...and I'm sorry but the fact that Elvis isnt #1, and Lennon and McCartney aren't listed in the top 3 is fu%$>g idiotic.

I don't see Elizabeth Fraser anywhere on this list, much less at #1 where she belongs.

These lists are always complete BS. But Kendrick Lamar at #20 is the biggest crock of shite I have seen on one of these lists in a long while.

Kendrick Lamar at 20, just behind Cornell?

ETA: also, Layne Staley at 55 behind the likes of DMX. Hell they have Cobain at 30 and Staley is a much better vocalist than Cobain.

For me it's:

Cornell and Staley almost too close to call

Vedder

Cobain

Now, was Cobain the best songwriter of the group? For that time, for that style, I think so. But he was, by far the worst singer - adequate, unique and even a little innovative at times, but, again, couldn't sing anything other than his own songs better than any of the other 3 (and that's a big maybe).

George Jones should have been way up there.

No Daryl Hall? No McCartney?

Curt Cobain, Springsteen and Tom Waits have better voices than these three?
