I can add another one.
Years ago I saw Harry Connick Jr at UNO. I only went because my wife loved the "When Harry Met Sally" soundtrack that he was on. It was his "Funk Tour", and his band was full of musicians from NOLA, which I didn't know at the time. The performance / musicianship blew me away. I was pleasantly surprised. My wife, not so much.

Took my daughter to see Fall Out Boy when she was in high school. Thought I’d hate it. Wasn’t great, but was a good show.

Saw Rod Stewart a few years ago and he put on a great show. The band was great. He did a few acoustic songs that included a string quartet.

Was basically dragged to a John Cougar Mellencamp concert. I was pretty surprised how much I liked it.

Bit surprised by that one. While his musical style was certainly not for everyone, he always had serious vocal talent.

I saw Styx open for Def Leppard a few years back. I really like their music, but didn't think their style lent itself well to a live show. I was very surprised how good a show they put on, would love to see them again.

The BoDeans opening for Little Feat in a cow pasture in Kansas around 1991. They were damn good, (Little Feat was pretty bad that night).
Little Feat - Jazz Fest around 1995. They had the best show I've ever seen in 1990 on the River Boat President for Jazz Fest (OK, probably should have lead with this one). Unfortunately, the next two shows I saw were awful. But in the mid 90's they did a great show with Sonny Landreth at Jazz Fest. You never know.
Alan Doyle - from Great Big Sea, in Kansas City this spring. My brother is a huge fan so I went. It was a damn good show.

I saw Stephen Stills at Wanee 2010
It was early in the day, i was trying to recover after going to hard at Col Bruce and P funk the night before. Thought it would be chill. Turned out to be one of the highlights of the weekend

It’s not too surprising about Manilow. He’s not my cup of tea, but he’s a talented entertainer.

The Strokes at Jazz Fest 12 years or so ago. Figured they would be one of those bands that would be too cool/too fricked up to actually be good.

Billy Strings
Went on a whim last year. Was totally amazed by his guitar playing. Was never into Bluegrass.

Donny and Marie Osmond at the Flamingo in Las Vegas.
My wife wanted to go so I took her. My expectations were not high.
Our tickets were front row, center and the concert was actually very good.

Vince Gill. I'd heard a few of his hits and knew he won CMA Entertainer of the Year a couple of times in the early 90s, but put him in the more soft, sleepy, easy listening country camp. Went to see him at The Ryman a couple of years ago because we were in town and looking for something to do. Figured it would be okay, but it turned out to be one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen.
Dude killed it for 4 hours, with a short intermission, had his backup singer and his daughter both do songs that blew the roof off and got standing ovations, burned his guitar down quite a few times, and everyone on the stage was a solid pro on their instrument. If you ever get a chance, go see him.
