Are they coming back? Just saw where Kacey Musgraves released her new album on cassette. Why would she do that?

I get vinyl coming back with sound quality and the ritual of putting them on, but a tape?

How would people play that nowadays? Nobody has a large stereo and cars don’t even have CD players.

It's strictly about nostalgia and kitsch. It was a wonderful day for me when I realized I would never have to deal with cassettes, 8 tracks, videotapes or any of that shite again. It's pure dumbassery to put any kind of valuable recording on something that shits the bed if you look at it wrong.

What’s not to get? Who here doesn’t miss having the cassette player eat your tape and then having to delicately pull the tape out of the player and wind it back into the cassette with a pencil eraser?

What's the sound quality versus vinyl?

I remember when cd's came out we thought they were better because you couldn't hear scratches.

I saw new cassettes for sale at a music store inside the Seattle airport this summer. Must be the new hip & trendy thing.

I pitched all my cassettes - probably two office bulk paper boxes full - some 10 years ago after hauling them around unplayed for the 20 years prior. Cassettes are a pain in the arse, they slack and break, they develop warble and drop-outs and they lose treble over time and they are VERY heat sensitive, with even subtle heat accelerating all of the above issues. Once I got a CD player in my car, tapes were basically useless. I have zero desire to reintroduce that medium in any music environ in which I dwell.

I assume sound quality and portability. Digital files are compressed and don't have the full range of sound. I personally cannot tell the difference, but audiophiles say they can. Cassettes are full sound without the scratches.

Team TDK SA90 checking in.

I wish I could find a tech to CLA my Nakamichi deck. It would be cool to play some of my old custom made mix tapes again.

Willy Herman Services in California will totally rebuild Nak decks. He did my CR-7A two years ago.
