RIP to a giant. Truly pitiful the mental struggles he went through since the 1960s. I hope he is at peace.
I gave him/them a renewed look when I read how McCartney viewed it as a competition and that Wilson was a very able competitor.
Having said that...I recently went to try to give Pet Sounds another chance to raise its profile in my eyes, and...I still kind of just don't get it. I also only realized recently that Sloop John B was not an original! (So, if anything, Pet Sounds is even lower than where I started).
This guy was obviously a genius, but unfortunately I think his brothers/family, ultimately held him back.
My favorite tale is of him putting the chorus to Be My Baby on hours-long loop and listening over and over. Legend.

Genius. So glad I was able to catch The Beach Boys at jazz fest a few years back.

Pet Sounds is among the greatest albums of all time.

Legend doesn't even begin to cover it.
Godspeed Brian.
Love and mercy, that's what you need tonight
So love and mercy to you and your friends tonight

This one was always my end of summer song.

I remember a Beach Boys song was the kick off to summer. Those were good times. A true genius and RIP.

I rank the Beach Bos in my top 3 bands. Caroline No which basically bemoans that fact that young girls age is one the my favorites songs. Glad to see that Brian's suffering has ended.

Top-5 songwriter ever. And IMO, he was #2 behind Paul.
RIP. A good bit of the music died today

Sail on Sailor
One of my favorites as well.
Great vocals by Blondie Chaplin but ironically Brian was never a big fan of the song.

Brian Wilson, a co-writer of "Sail On, Sailor," surprisingly stated, "It's the only song that we did that I absolutely do not like at all.

Love him or hate him.... He was one of the original pioneers of music.

Musicians from the 60s and 70s are going to start going fast. Really bums me out. They’ll always live on through their music but it’s cool to have the connection to them of them still being alive. It’s nice to put on a song or an album and know that guy is still kicking it and even performing. It’s a little different once they’re dead.

He didn't write that. That was Van Dyke Parks.

Genius... Love and Mercy, Brian!
Reminded of this Doonesbury strip from 1990, the year Pet Sounds was finally released on CD... that was a big deal..
