As a Canadian it may be blasphemous to say that i have never been a big rush fan ... there ok but I nvr saw them live, lots of friends did, just not for me. Listened to a podcast w lifeson and chris schiflit and it was interesting to listen to 2 guitar geeks

I'm surprised they haven't drowned your arse in a giant vat of maple syrup.

My favorite band. Seen them in concert 15 times over the years. My favorite albums are 2112, A Farewell To Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, and Moving Pictures.

Nobody could or can make progressive rock sound like they could. They tied it together and made it so cohesive. You could almost dance to it. But if you tried, you’d hurt yourself.

Nothing sounds like it. The best.

...sorry, but Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, King Crimson were all better at Prog Rock. And it's not that these groups couldn't sound like Rush...they just didn't want to.

In the 70's there were all sorts of rock bars where people would dance in a manner you described! People would hit the floor and dance to Zeppelin, Nugent, etc. in a contorted fashion.
Of course, back then people didn't think twice about drinking good water from the garden hose!

Debut album & 2112 are my faves.

Saw the Hemispheres tour and a show from the 1st half of the Permanent Waves tour before they took a break to do the album...they played Tom Sawyer & Red Barchetta, before the album release, of course. Both shows @ the former Capital Centre, Largo, MD

I remember where I was the first time I heard Rush (Tom Sawyer, of course.) I was waiting for a haircut as a young teen.

I got the "jam band" feel, and knew less than two minutes in that I would never buy one of their albums, and would never intentionally listen to them. Way too soft, dreamy and laid back.

I've also never smoked weed, so I wasn't the target audience anyway.

An awesome band, one of my biggest regrets is not seeing them live.

Won't mention any uncle, but her daddy's cornfield might be important.

thoughts on Rush

Amazing, one of the best ever. Listen to a lot of their music and still like to watch the video for Tom Sawyer and Time Stand Still, which has Amie Mann (sp?) in the video and she is a backup singer for the song.

I love the sound of their first 3 albums. The epitome of the garage sound

You missed out because smoking weed and listening to Rush is one of life’s guilty pleasures. And I know Kafka agrees with me.
