Any flaws in this record?? I find it difficult to find anything to critique.
I'm a Chili Peppers fan, but there is plenty that I would criticize about their other records. BSSM is about as close to a masterpiece as there is, IMO.

RHCP's finest hour by far.

Pretty much a flawless album, with a bunch of songs too...

Perfect record, and the last good one by RHCP.

Still in my all time top 10. A perfect collaboration with Rick Rubin.

Admittedly, not a big fan, but I thought By The Way was more of an ´album´.

Through no fault of its own, the album was released the same week as Nevermind.
The album's legacy is hindered by the explosion of grunge in 1991 with the release of Pearl Jam's debut, the aforementioned Nirvana masterpiece, and Soundgarden's third LP. Not to mention, Guns N' Roses released Use Your Illusion I & II and Metallica put out the Black Album. You could argue that during any other year in the '90s it would have been the album of the year, but there was no way it could overthrow those previous records.
Holy shite was that a good year for rock music.

Really excellent album. Followed what I believe is a severely overlooked and under-rated Mother's Milk album and expanded and grew on the sound they had created on that one.
I find they hit their stride on BSSM. Great album and one I still listen to quite often.

It did follow Mother's Milk, which is my favorite RHCP album ,with BSSM a close second.

I remember picking it up right after it came out when I was in college. Some of the best tracks never saw radio time. Excellent album. To this day it is still one of my favorites.

I like Mother's Milk better too. BSSM is great but I find it a little too long. I find 45 minutes or so to be a perfect length for an album. Go for almost 75 minutes and you're overstaying your welcome. IMO, of course.

Out of all the great albums they have, that one is probably my favorite.

I bought that record the same day as Badmotorfinger by Soundgarden. For some reason, I was really disappointed with Blood Sugar Sex Magik after the first listen. Can't remember why. But it sure grew on me. "Suck My Kiss" used to be my jam to psyche me up for going out.

It definitely was neglected by me and my friends because of Pearl Jam.

Mothers Milk is one of my favorite albums to just rock out too. It's almost entirely the fun, funky Chili Peppers.
Almost seems it was just before they even considered taking themselves or their music seriously.

Doesn't "breaking the girl" have a flute (actually a Mellotron, using the flute patch)? A flute effect is generally a flaw in my book. It's a good album. But they way Anthony is almost always just out of pitch always ruined Chili Peppers for me. Hit the note Anthony. Not an Anthony guy. Don't hate em. Just don't love him. Love the rest of the guys. I wore that album out back in the day.

I love this whole album and it should be a top ten record of all time.
They created their own blend of funk punk jazz and metal.
The trio of John Frusicante, Flea, and Chad Smith is amazing. Anthony does bring it down a notch but those guys are so fricking good it doesn't matter.

Ozzy put out No More Tears at the same time. It truly was an epic August/September period.
