All of my favorite original Al songs:
Good Old Days
Albuquerque
You Don't Love Me Anymore
Dare to be Stupid
The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota
This is the Life (from Johnny Dangerously)
One More Minute
Christmas at Ground Zero
Happy Birthday
Mr Frump and the Iron Lung

Parodies:
Eat It
Smells Like Nirvana
Fat
Like a Surgeon
any of his Polkas

Damn, its hard to pick an absolute favorite!

Dare to Be Stupid is my absolute favorite Weird Al album, tho.

Coolio killed his own career by being a shithead about Weird Al doing a parody of “Amish Paradise”. Coolio said in a boorish interview at the time that he didn’t like Al “desecrating” the song.

Michael Jackson signed off on “Eat It”, Coolio chose poorly.

Al asks for permission beforehand of the original artist to parody a work. He doesn’t have to and won’t do the parody if permission is withheld. With Coolio, the Yankovic folks thought they had secured permission. That’s part of the reason why it was a big deal.

Full disclosure-
Al asked Paul McCartney for permission to turn “Live and Let Die” into “Chicken Pot Pie” and (according to Al) Sir Paul turned him down for an odd reason. Paul is a hardcore vegan and he did want his song associated with eating meat.

When Weird Al finally passes away it should be a national day of mourning.

Here's an even better story. When Al asked Dire Straits if he could parody Money for Nothing, Mark Knopfler said yes on one condition. He wanted to play guitar on it.
