I'll go with, The Refreshments. The band later became, Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers. Great Arizona Rock. Banditos wasn't even their best song. Anybody else?

Thank you for not saying "shouldn't OF been". One of my major internet peeves.

That being said, my vote goes to Wang Chung (who I've seen on these lists)--one of my favorite 80's bands. They actually had two hits, Everybody Have Fun Tonight and Dance Hall Days, but my personal favorite was their soundtrack music to the movie To Live and Die in L.A.

I’m a big fan. You could argue that they’re more known for the King of the Hill theme than Banditos.

More one hit wonders from the same era that don’t get enough credit:
Fastball
Tonic
Black Lab
Marvelous 3
Fountains of Wayne
Hum
Brother Cane

Tonic wasn’t bad. They had a few hits just never made it huge

Many think of Dexy's Midnight Runners as a one hit wonder, but the entire Too-Rye-Ay album is a phenomenal must-listen

Does Todd Rundgren's "Utopia" count?

They never really had a hit. "Love is the Answer" or "Set me Free" charted but weren't known.

...but I always thought they should have been much more popular than they actually were.

I like Blind Melon. If Shannon Hoon hadn't died, they would have been a household name.

Did they even have a hit? I say that as a fan too. Birth, School, Work, Death did get some MTV airtime I suppose.

The 90's had a lot. Alien Ant Farm is pretty good outside of the Smooth Criminal cover.

Dropkick Murphy's had Shipping up to Boston and a lot of other really underrated Irish rock.

Maybe one hit "album", but they had 4 top 10 singles and that one album was massive.
