Great band, but how are they a one hit wonder?

I've only ever heard Love in a Trash Can.

This will be one from left field but:

Clint Mansell (Lux Aeterna): not a band per se though the literal definition of band is close enough, but people should acquaint themselves with other scores of his. It’s a feat that he managed to create a song this mainstream in his field without attaching it to a blockbuster movie franchise. His score for Moon is so good I can listen to it and watch the movie in my head.

I still don’t know how they weren’t huge.

I'll go with The Refreshments.

I like them better than RC&TP actually. Don't Wanna Know is my favorite song of theirs.

Came here to post this.

“God Shuffled His Feet” is a fantastic album.

Edie Brickell and New Bohemians’ first two albums were also very good. They are mainly known for the single “What I Am”, but their entire debut album is sublime. “Circle” is my personal theme song. Their sophomore effort “Ghost of a Dog” is almost as good as “Shooting Rubber Bands at the Stars”.

Marcy Playground's first album was very good but will always be known for Sex & Candy.

Dishwalla was a band that had good sophomore and third albums but will always be known for Counting Blue Cars on their debut.

I've never thought of them as a "One Hit Wonder" but I guess they are. Their only "hit" was "No Rain", though "Change" got some airtime.

So if they shouldn't have been, a one hit wonder, what should they have been? I believe that the direction they were going in was not to create "hits" but great bodies of work, which was Soup. Soup is way better than the S/T album (even though that one is good). I doubt they'd have any more hits as big as "No Rain" but would have made some amazing albums if Hoon hadn't passed.

I've always thought of "One hit wonders" as bands who literally had one (or a couple) good song that made it as a "hit" on one of their early albums, and nothing they produced after that was regarded as good, if it's a hit or not.

This would be the point of the thread. Blind Melon is a perfect example. They were good enough to be a long term, successful band. however, they never fully broke out.

Living in Texas, it’s hard to imagine them being considered a one hit wonder. Tyler, Away, I Come From the Water, and Backslider all got major airplay in the 90’s, and later on, Push the Hand, Heel, and No Deliverance.

I love the Romantics but they had at least two hits, "What I Like About You" and "Talking In Your Sleep".
