I have occasionally stumbled on interesting bands in the last several years. Maybe give a listen to The Kills or The Subways. Neither
Is deep, necessarily, but they’re fun. They may be old news to some of you. I first saw both of them 4or 5 years ago. I’m not in a situation to hear a lot of new music these days. I’m not aware of any truly notable Today, but I don’t get out much.

Mastodon, Gojira, High on Fire.

Look out boys! We've got ourselves a once in a generation singular mind among us! May our picks be worthy of he who cannot be bothered to turn off the FM radio.

Calm down, Nancy.

I’ve known about Meshugga, Gojira, All them Witches, The Sword, Mastadon, and others for years. Just looking for something a bit newer. Like maybe a young up and coming band that actually has balls.

It kind of blows my mind when people have that "no good music being made today" take. We have unprecedented access to music and bands have unprecedented ability to self-publish their music, meaning you can find basically anything.

If you want to find 100 current bands making 70s throwback rock, there's probably a Spotify playlist dedicated to it. If you want Tuvan throat singer Mongolia metal, probably a playlist for it. People complaining about not being able to break out of the pop radio bubble just aren't putting out much effort.

What do you expect? So called music lovers and consumers of the art are no longer spending the time discovering music on their own. It’s never been easier to explore new music and genres.

Instead, you have people asking strangers on message board to tell them what music to listen to.

Don’t blame the industry, blame yourself.

Are there any newer bands/artists, perhaps like a Sturgill, that are bucking the terrible music industry? I like some Sturgill but looking for something a bit more punk/rock/metal-ish.

Unfortunately, the algorithms being used by most streaming services absolutely push users towards the same shite that the radio does. The best streaming service I ever found for finding new music was the old Yahoo music service. The major labels like to get involved in snapping up services to ensure their continued manipulation of popular music taste.

The ones I would mention have already been noted. Royal Blood, Rival Sons, The Struts, Sons of Apollo, Jinjer. I might add I Prevail, The Winery Dogs and Periphery. Devin Townsend will always be a recommendation.

You are probably already familiar with Gary Clark Jr. but if not you should check him out.

Jack Logan did an album called Bulk back in the 90s that never had a song aired on the radio but might be the best double LP I have ever heard. Especially for garage recorded tracks. Bulk is 42 songs out of over 600 that he wrote. None of them are heavy metal but he captures a wide range of styles. Songs that become addictive and lyrics that you will appreciate.
