Go ahead fellow Zeppelin, floyd, Who, and the hippie dead heads and Billy Joel overloaders...prove me wrong.

Where were you when this album was released? In late 1987, what music was absolutely and compassing all of your life? Was it Ratt, was it Bon Jovi, was it Wasp or something even more low key? Was it Motley Crue and what they were doing? And if you were into the alternative stuff, do you think bands like the science Department, Talking Heads? or INXS or was it about Motorhead or Maiden or even Quiet Riot were doing something better?

There is nothing that can outlast GNR Appetite. Sorry. What can you possibly try to ammo with? The Joshua Tree? George Harrison or Peter Gabriel? Michael Jackson? Metallica took the year off...so.not them.

Appetite wins easily.

It’s a Guns N Roses album.

I think Back in Black and Metallica's self titled album give it a run for its money.

I love Appetite but it's hard to argue against Back in Black as the greatest hard rock album ever, and The Black Album is still the best sounding rock album I've ever heard.

You have to take into account the scene at the time. Hair bands were dominating with their cheesy ballads, dull pentatonic solos and spandex. The band looked and sounded like no-one else, even Slash's guitar solos were dramatically different. Out of nowhere, a band that was basically from the gutters of Hollywood drops an album that oozes anger, sleeze and debauchery in such an in your face way that MTV refused to play the lead single. The album was out for months before MTV finally aired the Welcome to the Jungle video at like 4am. Then the rest is history.

No doubt.

Loved it then ... love it to this day.

Can easily listen to the whole thing start to finish ... or, in any order.

It's a great album. Best ever? Not sure it's the GOAT debut album (although it might be in the Top 5 with things like Boston - Boston and Led Zeppelin I), even.

But, again, a great album. Worth the ride just for WTTJ, It's so easy, Paradise City and Sweet Child - the other songs on there are lagniappe.

A very good rock album, but I’m not so sure about “greatest”

As just one possible example of another contender, I’d consider Exile on Main Street.

I love Appetite but one thing that hurts it today along with Led Zeppelin IV is the overplayed songs.

It is a great album. But how is Masters of Reality and/or Paranoid not the best?

It's a hair band, so it's automatically disqualified from the conversation.
