re: Album omissions that are head scratchers in retrospect?

I'm sure STigers, you're well versed on The Cure B Sides over the years. A LOT of thier B side music is just as good if not better than album material. Lovesong was a big hit for them and a cute song, but it's B side Fear of Ghosts may be one of my favorite Cure songs.
Heck, the whole B side cassette by The Cure back in the day was incredible.
Can't "scratch my head" about the decisions, there's just too many fantastic Cure songs.

Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins were king of the B-sides. Pearl Jam had some awesome songs hidden on import CDs. At first, Yellow Ledbetter was only available on some expensive imported Jeremy single CD. It also had Footsteps on it too (another awesome B-side).
Smashing Pumpkins came out with a box set of their B-sides which sold a lot of copies. They also had a CD of their B-sides after Siamese Dream that was really good. There are basically unreleased hits on those complications.
Weezer had some great Blue era ones like Suzanne and Jamie, but the Blue Album was so damn good that you couldn't improve it by adding anything. King and Pig were two great ones from the later years (Red Album)...better than probably most of the stuff on the actual album.
Oasis had some great ones as well...Masterplan, Acquiesce, Half the World Away, etc.
The 90s B sides were better than almost all of the music today.

Einstein on the Beach was a great 90s one too from Counting Crows. Just remembered that one. These great B-sides that weren't even on albums came from a number of bands who were putting out albums full of great material already though. It was nice because some of the songs didn't get played into the ground since they weren't officially released on regular albums as singles.

"Tear It Down" from Hysteria.
They re-recorded a lamer version years later for Adrenalize.

Strawberry Fields / Penny Lane should have been on Sgt. Pepper.
Good Vibrations should have been on Pet Sounds.

Pearl Jam - State of Love and Trust
Also on the Singles Soundtrack, not on a Pearl Jam Album
Breathe is also a cool one, same thing.

Silver Springs by Fleetwood Mac was left off Rumours.
Glad I read the thread before I posted this. Silver Springs may be Stevie Nix's best song. Ironically, it was the B-Side to Go Your Own Way which Buckingham wrote about Nix.

Hell Pisces Iscariot is an incredible album and wasn’t it almost all old b sides?

Daily Mail left off King of Limbs. Its one of the best Radiohead songs.

And Stevie was PISSED because Mick said they were putting I Don’t Wanna Know on the album instead.
She wanted to release the song again on one of her solo albums in the 80s or early 90s and Mick told her no again because he was putting it on a compilation album. She got mad and quit the band. She wasn’t able to perform the song until their reunion concert in 1997.
Fantastic performance by the way.

Not that it's great song or anything but I find it odd that Dokken didn't put the song Back for the Attack on the album of the same name.
They had cut the song during the making of Under Lock and Key but shelved it. It was the b side of the Dream Warriors single, but then got shelved again when Back for the Attack was released. It was finally added on the 2009 remastered version.

I wonder if some of these album omissions are songs from around the same time period that were recorded during a different session. I honestly don't know if the Pearl Jam songs from Singles were recorded during the Ten sessions. I'm pretty sure Yellow Ledbetter was recorded at the same time as the first album.

Back in my teens, I worked at a record shop in NO, and the guy who handled the Atlantic Records distributorship in the area, gave us a promo lp of mostly unknown bands, and it also had this cut from Led Zep. Was stunned that this somehow had never been released. Great song that sounds like something from their III lp.

They should have included it and replaced Songbird, Oh Daddy or Don't Stop.
