I'm an hour or so behind. My thoughts so far:

1. Its like the execs in nashville caught wind that sturgill was awesome and was using a horn section, so lets horn the shite out of a song for lady antebellum.

2. I literally laughed out loud when i heard them tease the shite about fla/ga lune and the backstreet boys.

Agree with everyone else. This garbage is laughable.

question was" why is it unbelievable that it took a long time, for a female to win the award for best song?"

Oh I get that it's a male industry and genre but 2017 as the first time to have a female win songwriter of the year is pretty regressive

you've seen Lori write some stellar albums before this year, patty griffin, Gillian Welch, Lucinda (and on and on)

That this was the FIRST is surprising even though I figured there weren't tooooo many on the books

Of all the punchable faces, Jason Aldean's has got to be the punchablest.

ETA: Nevermind, just watched FL/GA line.

" Stellar" that is a huge word.
You have to ask yourself,"how many of these songs will still be remembered 50 years from now?" none.
There are some women that write some good songs that I like. Not very many great ones though. Mostly formulaic.

Question and slight hijack.

Where is Sturgill Simpson? Does he not go to these? Not get nominated? Is he still a smallish act who is working his way up?

Does country music dislike him?

He's not really a country singer. Even Stapleton is more Nashville than Sturgill is.

Problem is a southern accent is all it takes to make something country. I don't listen to country... but seriously 8 year's in a row for Miranda Lambert... are there no others?

Like (RIP) Tim Wilson said ... I'm about fed up with Nashville's arse and their hand-me-a-trophy awards.

Scott Borchetta flexed his political muscle. Humble and Kind didn't win song of the year and he has fabricated that no talent cinder Block, Thomas Rhett as the new Music Row sensation totally fricking over Stapleton out of male vocalists of the year. Only positive was Miranda winning album and a few other very select moments. God I hate mainstream country pop fodder bs. If they want to go for total broke, bring back Taylor Swift. At least she is a lyrical and performer genius. Sturgill needs to get back in the studio soon. Hope him and Cobb kissed and made up. Also anxious to see Stapleton's solphmore solo record. I hope Music Row douchebags are not setting him up to be Jamey Johnson part deaux.

That is a big load of crap. Yeah ASGTE was his least country record, but he is very much a country singer.

Until 60% of the population stops supporting garbage, there will be no real cultural shift. And honestly at this point, I don't care if we have one. I'd venture a guess to say that most people here don't listen to FM radio much, if at all. I have everything I like on iTunes, and I find plenty of new stuff on Pandora. Corporate Nashville owns the radio and the awards shows, and I kinda just don't care anymore. I loved hate-watching the ACM's just to witness the whoring out of all these folks under the delusion that they are millionaires because of musical talent. There's no passion in 98% of it, and thats what I hate more than anything. But again, there's no shortage of good stuff, it just might take a little work to find.

Worst ever. No Zac Brown Band, Toby Keith (again), Trace Adkins, as usual no classics like Dwight Yoakum, no Sara Evans, no Alan Jackson, no Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church. Lot of great "country" singers not there or didnt' perform. Instead...Backstreet Boys. did not know they were country.

Lousy show. Carrie always worth watching. Keith Urban can't buy an award. I think the thing is fixed. There were a few good performances. Carrie Underwood is always great.

Terrible. I ashamed for watching the whole thing. Back Street Boys should even be ashamed to for performing with FGL.

Where would you put him?

He's not rock. I guess that was my question in part. I don't know how people feel about him. He isn't winning awards but I'm sure he doesn't care. Doubt I will get to see him play any bars anymore though.

Nice melt. 'Humble and Kind' is a bad song. And Thomas Rhett has his dad behind him - that's why he's getting big more than anything else (look at how much influence Rhett Akins has had on Nashville since 2010). It is bullshite that a song from 2015 can win an award, though.

If you want to melt, do it over that no talent hack Miranda Lambert winning Female Vocalist again, or 'H.O.L.Y.' winning Single despite being absolutely fricking awful.

I was at the ACM Awards. It was a pretty good show.

And no, country music isn't my favorite genre. I went as part of a corporate event.

But I will say this: Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, Reba Macintyre, can all REALLY REALLY sing. I came away very impressed.

And some of the men were good too - Luke Bryan.

No, I didn't stay in my seat for the whole show. I can't. It's country music. But I was really glad I got to go..... I saw some serious talent.
