I will say this...If you want to get the John Wayne career in a quick timespan...

You have to watch Red River...
quote:

John Ford, who worked with Wayne on many films such as Stagecoach, The Searchers and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, was so impressed with Wayne's performance that he is reported to have said, "I didn't know the big son of a bitch could act!"

In AFI's list of Top Ten greatest Westerns its #5.

And then you have to watch The Shootist.

The beginning and the end.
quote:

Footage from Red River was later incorporated into the opening montage of Wayne's last film, The Shootist, to illustrate the backstory of Wayne's character.

You get young Wayne, last hurrah Wayne in a bookend double-feature. That's why the Shootist is a love letter to his Westerns.

So many of John Wayne's movies have been mentioned, but I was always partial to "The Hellfighters". Not a western but about firefighters of oilfield fires. A lot of fun.

All of his best movies have already been mentioned but one that always appealed to me for some reason is Legend of the Lost with him and Sophia Loren. It's probably not considered a great movie but anytime I see it on somewhere I give it a watch.

In The Burbs the Rick DuCommon character tells Tom Hanks and Bruce Dern "we gotta get going because we're burnin daylight"

nice homage to John Wayne and Bruce Dern

Liberty Valance is my favorite by far.

The Searchers is good but very dark.
