Probably my favorite 10, in order of their original production runs:

(1965-1970) Get Smart
(1971-1979) All in the Family
(1972-1983) M*A*S*H
(1975-1979) Faulty Towers
(1982-1993) Cheers
(1984-1992) The Cosby Show
(1987-1997) Married... with Children
(1988-1997) Roseanne
(1988-1993) The Wonder Years
(1988-1993) Red Dwarf

I just did live action shows, otherwise Beavis and Butt-head, The Simpsons, and South Park would need to be considered.

Love the show, but it's not Top 10 because no one knew it existed. Which sucks because it's AD type awesome.

Selfishly....

I'd have Black Adder on any top 10...some of the funniest stuff ever. But I know it's not mainstream.

For mainstream and greatness...

Mash has to be on every list...and All in the Family and Cheers and I Love Lucy...and Seinfeld.

After that, it's all taste and generational.

I agree. I was writing a list, but then re-read OP - "Your top 10".

All-time top 10 has to include:
I Love Lucy
All in the Family
MASH
Cheers
Seinfeld
Happy Days

That's six. I think Cosby Show would be next.

Then you have 3/4 shows to pick from old or new.
I would personally put Parks on the list because I think it's one of the best sitcoms ever. I'd also put AD on that list. Easily I'm excluding animated series, because that's a whole new dynamic.

The Office is more widely accepted than Parks, but I prefer Parks because it's better. AD was one of the best written shows ever, but it's not mainstream. On my list it represents SOAP and others in that genre.

That's nine.

I think for 10th spot, it's Friends or Scrubs. I go Scrubs personally, but I think Friends had a huge cultural impact more than Scrubs.

So my Top 10 (some personal, some historic) in no particular order:

- All in the Family
- I Love Lucy
- Seinfeld
- MASH
- The Cosby Show
- Cheers
- Parks and Recreation
- Happy Days
- Arrested Development
- Friends

Honorable mentions: A LOT!!

Does Scrubs not count as a sitcom? Shocked by its lacked of mentions but I know top 10 is a hard hill to climb
