Harry and Malfoy could have achieved incredible things, including the resurrection of our dark lord. Sorry, but I'm choosing Death Eater over Auror every day of the week.

the dark lord was a big government hack.

This goes for both sides of wizard politics. There was no need for such a inflated bureaucracy

For good reason.

Remember all the bull shite Harry had to go through just to find the right court room for his hearing after using the Patronus?

With Lord Voldemort in charge he would have cleaned shite up and everything would have been easier for not only the high profile wizard, but the simple man.

Also, why are the Weasley's so fricking poor? I feel like having a government job pays pretty middle class like, or am i wrong in thinking that?

I always kind of assumed they were the wizarding world version of the big arse Catholic family where money was tight pretty much b/c every sperm is sacred.

Yeahhhh Cedric Diggory was like that one kid in the band that quit football his Sophomore year because he didn't like the coach but was still friends with all the cool kids.

Ehhhh... How does this even make sense? He was literally fatefully dead-tied with Harry for the best varsity quidditch player at Hogwarts

The way he met Draco there was no chance he'd ever want to pick Slytherin. He despises people who are a-holes for no good reason.

Yeah, there's a very pyrposeful scene at the beginning of the first book establishing exactly why Harry would not want to be a slytherin or to have anything to do with Malfoy

I'd imagine it was not unlike England. For long time you were either a lord and had land/power or you were poor. Since magic provides just about everything you could possibly want their wasn't much desire for the lower class to rise. So the Weasley's were just a Irish family pooping out kids and living the simple life.

The dark lord used anit- mogul populists rhetoric to gain support in the bottom classes. Malfoy and other nobals joined up just to save themselves.

Harry was rich. His parents left him a vault full of gold. They just don't dwell on it in the movies.

don't know if you ever switched schools as a kid but I did a few times. you tend to avoid the cool kids on the first day. You are a fish trying to figure out a new environment.

Harry is in a completely new world, there is no way he had the swag to be elite from day 1.

Harry walked into a fortune and immediately was the coolest kid in Hogwarts because he didn't die when Voldemort fricked him and his fam up.

He was swimming in pussy and money.

What? They literally show his vault full of Galleons and shite when they go and get the Sorcerers stone.

I do think it was kind of a bitch move for Harry to not match Malfoy's gift of Nimbus 2001's for all the Slytherin team w/ Firebolts for the Gryffindor team.

I get the Firebolt is move expensive, but I mean it's the one time where Harry can big dick Malfoy and not really have to do anything aside from open his vault.

And he does absolutely nothing for his friends in any of the books or movies with said money. Harry was a pos.

I mean, he had money but I don't think he was "rich." I know some people whose parents died when they were very young and their parents left them hundreds of thousands of dollars if not a couple of million. They certainly aren't rich. Their money went into their schooling, money for their upbringing, all sorts of stuff. And they are perfectly middle class people now.

It was still new to him. He wasn't conditioned to deal with it from day one.

It's like my great uncle who hit it rich with some oil/natural gas on his property. Till the day he died he lived like he was still in the depression.

Harry had been treated like a bitch step-child that no one wanted around. He wasn't just going to flip he switch to big time swinging dick

A bit of clarity on the assumptions made here:
* This does not take into account other properties, like Grimmauld’s Place
* This is not canon, what I meant this is as close as canon as we can get, since although the books are our official reference the movies come as close second, since in a way or another J.K. was involved as a consultant, and it’s the second-best material we can work with in some aspects. (The first being J.K. herself)
* This was a minimum estimate, which means that the redditor took all the precautions of the case to underestimate the actual wealth. In the book we can read:
Harry gasped. Inside were mounds of gold coins. Columns of silver. Heaps of little bronze Knuts.

This means that there were multiple mounds of gold coins, not just one, and there was also silver].
If we take into account the actual width and depth of a Vault we can see the value skyrocket to tens of millions, assuming the whole floor is covered in gold and silver, so I just tried to keep things as low as possible.
