Just finished watching it, great movie, and I have a new Hollywood crush, Lily James.
The movie was a little predictable and a chick flick, but the music made up for it.

I loved it, but I'm biased. I am a Beatles fanatic.

It wasn't an original score. You can listen to Beatles songs anytime you want. You don't have to see this movie to hear the Beatles.

But predictable sounds about right what I expected. Cloying? Probably a dash of that too. And totally absurd. Probably some of that.

Beatlemania existed in a certain time and place with certain music around them.

Still can't get over the fact that audiences would go gaga over the Beatles if they were new to the scene in 2019.

Like gaga over Gaga? I mean if there was no nostalgia and history of listening to this band's songs and they just suddenly emerged in 2019 - I Wanna Hold Your Hand is gonna be #1 over Beyonce? People are gonna go crazy over this band's music from 1960's?

But you said it yourself, it's a fun movie because of the music.

But that didn't make Mama Mia a great movie either.

It's just a stupid premise...it's basically saying Beatles songs could come out today and people would go crazy...like, they've never heard this type of music before...that everyone will stop listening to Katy Perry and the other nonsense that drives the charts...and 12 year old girls will scream over I Wanna Hold Your Hand in 2019, abandoning Beyonce and Taylor Swift.

It's transplanting 60's music to a contemporary audience and acting like it's the most amazing thing they've ever heard...like Rock N' Roll didn't exist, Stones, Zep, etc. Didn't exist. CCR, the WHO, whomever.

Plus everyone in the movie is probably portrayed as dumb as shite. It's the Invention of Lying premise but with music.

Aren't you just the Debbie Downer. You are saying that if any of the Beatles songs were released today, they wouldn’t be #1? I call BS. You used “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” as your example. Not the best example to wonder if a song would go #1 today. That is a very campy song. Listen to “Yesterday” or one of their many giant hits. They would go to #1

Fell in love with Lily James when she played Rose on Downton. Never saw that Disney live-action Cinderella movie she was in, but she was the reason I even thought about seeing it.

Really enjoyed Yesterday. Big Beatles fan and it was nice to hear a lot of the songs again, and how relevant they still sound, in a current movie, for a new generation.

Plus, I am generally a fan of "What if" alternate reality themes in movies & shows. What if the Beatles suddenly never existed? What if you found yourself re-living the same 24hr day over and over again? What if Hitler had won WW2? etc...

My favorite line from the movie was “The world is a better place with the Beatles’ music in it!” (Quote maybe a little off)

Imagine Ed Sheeran singing Yesterday or Something. They are Number 1 hits with 1 billion views each on You Tube.

There is a major audience/market for acoustic guitar/folk ballads that can co-exist with the other non-sensical pop, rap, EDM, etc. markets out there today.

I really enjoyed the movie. Like a billion other people I love the Beatles but that being said

Absolutely they would. This was addressed in the movie with a few songs. No Yellow Submarine for instance.

That's a whole lot of melting over a movie you haven't seen. Its kind of impressive.

He's 100% right. If nobody had ever heard of the beatles and their stuff was released today it MIGHT crack the top 40. Music isn't like that anymore.

I could see some of them doing similar to Ed Sheeran with the right person on vocals at absolute best. It wouldn't be the best album of all time like the film portrayed.

Movie was ok, I didn't like the ending. It would of been better if he had to deal with the dilemma of the relationship vs the music without other people knowing his secret. How it ended was just dumb for me.

I think some songs could still be hits, but most of the early stuff like “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” and “Love Me do” absolutely wouldn’t be.

I could see a band like Raconteurs or Foo Fighters making a hit out of “Heltar Skeltar”

Mumfurd & Sons would definitely chart with “If I Fell”

“Something in the Way” could absolutely be a hit today.

“She’s So Heavy” could be a rock song today

While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Dear Prudence
Something
A Day in the Life
Eleanor Rigby
Here Comes the Sun
Blackbird

All those songs would easily be hits today if they were released today, just to name a few

The movie was okay, I really liked the part when he met the old man version of John Lennon.

IMO.. some of their songs would hold up well in todays world of music if the right artist was involved. However I cannot see any of their music being super hits (for lack of a better term) like they were in the 60's & 70's.

Having said that, they did write some really good music that will hold up well in current times...

The Beatles influenced so many artists and styles it’s truly impossible to know what pop music would look like today without them or how it would effect the current acts or past acts.

Guess what tho? It’s a frickin movie man. Stop your brain for two seconds and try to enjoy the movie.

Classic defense of a bad movie.

I did not care for it. Saw it in theatres. I have no desire to ever watch it again.

That’s fine you didn’t like it. I’m not saying you have to like it. The guy I replied to it has never seen it and is shitting on it because he’s an idiot.

She just didn't do it for me on Downton for some reason but she was so sweet and supportive in this movie, I wanted to marry her.
