With a couple exceptions, the stories of these films are not connected. You are not expected to maintain that suspension of disbelief. All the Bonds act very differently.

They do, somewhat but the Bond Films of different actors reference things that happen in other movies...like he is the same person.

George Lazenby's Bond had his wife killed. In a Roger Moore Bond film, the movie starts with Bond at her grave site, implying he is the same person just different actor.

So... if Bond is the same person in all of those... him being a minimum of 77 years old you can ignore but black skin you can't?

He also fights villains with moon bases and jumps off cliffs into moving planes, but being black would kill the reality of things.

It’s also a movie about a secret agent who uses his REAL NAME

Even in the gritty reboots it’s not a code name it’s his given Christian name. Bond is on his parents tombstone.

Actually you can. Just because it's always been a white guy doesnt mean there is something wrong with change.

I think Bond is a legitimate case where you can say "it's time there be a black actor in this role."

Then why not just drop the James Bond and go with 007 only? That would actually make sense, and at that point you open the character up to anyone, including women.

I dont Think people need to see spy movies about 007 agent.

It’s a lot about the name the personality the style. Tuxedos and martinis.

This comment made sense in the 70s, in a debate about Connery stepping down from the role. Now, after several men of various looks, builds, hair colors, and nationalities have played the role, we're past that.

In what ways would a different skin color for Bond make him not seem like Bond?

In that case Bruce Wayne, Superman, are different people in the various comics and movies then? They have been around since the 30s.

They reboot it to tell the story of the same man for new audiences...Marvel comics calls it 'sliding time scale' or something

So Bond isn't 77 years old no more than Spiderman is 60

Yeah, and you accept this, so why not a different bond?

Enter a Black agent, dif name taking the 007 as others have suggested like Miles Morales is another SpiderMan.

Or as I suggested, do a spinoff 006,009 or whatever you want.

But if you want to do actual James Bond black etc., go for it...not vehemently opposed to it, I was just describing what I preferred.

I wouldnt have a problem either way, that probably is the better option. Keep the name Bond or go 007, having a black guy play him wouldnt bother me, i'd like to see it.

I doubt I could get too excited for a woman 007 though. There are a ton of "kick arse women" movies out there right now, not much need for there to be a woman 007.

The fact he's always been a charismatic white male that loves to chase arse?

My proposal makes sense, opens up the character to more options, and removes the "James Bond has to be a white guy" argument. What I want to know is why you seem to be opposed to this option?

In all seriousness, for the people who get upset over a traditionally white role going to a person of color, do you also get outraged when a role of color is whitewashed? If so, please provide links or examples.

This is why I don't understand the objection to Elba. Make him a charismatic black male that loves to chase arse, and it's really not that big a deal.

Literally, zero lines of dialogue or scenes need to change. A different guy plays him, and everything else remains the same, just like it has many times before.

Unless you think only white guys can be charismatic ladies men, it's the same thing.

Yeah, because there are no black people in England.
