But according to the chief natives don’t want fences.

You know who was the lucky one in this series? The brother who died in episode 1.
His gimmick was probably telling knock knock and dad jokes to lighten the mood.
Also, have they ever even mentioned that guy again? Has John forgotten he had another son? Beth has no stories about her older brother.
Speaking of things that have disappeared… Where’s the helicopter? Having a helicopter was much more bad arse than all the Dodge trucks.

so, this whole season is just leading up to next season? WTF?
Beth finally gets put in her place by John. But, that can't be good for him. Beth and Rip are the only 2 people with unquestioned loyalty to John and the Yellowstone.
hopefully with jimmy headed back to yellowstone, it means less texas crap. Also, why not take the chick with you?
Then i see whiney arse mia is back making jimmy miserable again.
next to last episode and we finally get John/Randall interaction? and it's reminiscent of the John/Wade diner interaction.
Walker singing to Beth in her time of need can go one of 2 ways. Him and Rip bond over it or Rip beats Walker to death.
The kayce/Indian/Wolf thing if dumb. You keep seeing a wolf in Montana? You'd better take part in this crazy ritual.
Here. let's put you on a mountain where there's snow on the ground with no shirt, no food, no water and a hash pipe surrounded by flowers and see what happens.
oh and smoke the pipe while praying.
Jamie continues to be a weak minded pussy who is incredibly easy to manipulate. jamie, go be a lawyer, ok dad. jamie run for office, okay. jamie, your dad is mean to you, tell me the story so i can publish it.okay. jamie, why did you talk to a reporter? fix it!
jamie, i know you killed that reporter oh and btw i'm pregnant, if you want to see your baby, you have to change. okay.
jamie, go be the livestock commissioner, okay. Jamie stop being livestock commissioner and go shovel shite. okay. jamie come be the AG, ok. you're not john's son , your my son, you need to destroy john and take yellowstone. frick the world they'll find out about me anyway, you know where the bodies are buried. wait, your dad murdered your mom? you can't run with him in the picture. oh yeah, she's right, i better back off.
and i'm picking the Texas chick over mia 100 out of 100 times.

What would even be more bad arse than that would be for John Dutton to fly in his helicopter to watch some horses slide in the dirt

And then Sheridan ropes the rotary blades of the chopper and lands it in a field safely (bc he's a real cowboy) and John just grunts and mutters "god damn Texans sure love to show off". They all slam a shot of Yellowstone branded whiskey and go back to making fun of Rip junior

Fairly common when setting up a series it seems. Spend a lot of money up front and then rely more on cheaper/interior shots once you have people hooked.
I bet the production budget that first season was much higher than any of the following seasons--not counting any cast raises, etc.
I'd have to rewatch but it seems S1 of Succession is similar. Not that any of them are "cheap" but there were several episodes in S3 that seemed to take place in one or two rooms/locations.

Speaking of cowboys, I’m not really the most knowledgeable on the rodeo circuit that his character is doing, but isn’t Sorting kinda toward the bottom of events? Isn’t stuff like Bull & Bareback Riding, Roping, Barrel Racing, and Steer Wrestling all considered way more prestigious events?
Sheridan’s is framing it like once the Sorting riders arrive, everyone kinda steps back because the true badasses have arrived

This season has been so awful, I expected with the finale coming these last 2 episodes would have ignored the stuff that’s been bogging down the plot and really ramp it….Nope. Still stuffed full of jimmy and Sheridan being a twat.
I think it’s fairly obvious this show is largely now just a vehicle to push products based off its popularity and an advertisement for the streaming service. They’ll bleed it dry by next season as most of the audience will have turned on it, they kill the main Yellowstone show, and everyone gets spin offs on paramount +, except for John, Sheridan kills him in the series finale.

Costner is an executive producer on this series and I can’t believe he is letting the storylines drift all over the place like they have been

Sorting, reigning, cutting, team penning, etc. are their own circuit. It is an extremely expensive sport. On the level shown on the show it is mainly a hobby for rich ranchers. He is giving you the perspective of the horse trainers. They generally don't own their horses and are contracted to train the horses to work cattle in an arena. The trainers usually have the calves and have small cattle operations and training is their main source of income. They usually get calves from different places and rotate them often, because the calves get used to the horses and will stop working. A bad set of calves can make for a terrible event if they don't work. Most Cattlemen are okay with it because they don't hurt the calves and the trainers take over feed and care of the calves while they are using them. Transport is probably the roughest thing on the cattle.
These events are for high end horse, cattle people. Those people generally don't interact with the people who Rodeo. Some roping events may overlap, but overall most Rodeo guys don't own horses and are more athletes than real cowboys.

Has this show completely gone off the rails or what?
They have dragged Kayce's character down to his wife's level.
John finally is disappointed in Beth for being a monster of a person?
Jimmy is a full blown cowgirl after spending all of 15 minutes at the four sixes!
Now Jimmy's story arc contains a love triangle? Kayce I can believe, but Jimmy. It's laughable.
I don't think there is a redeemable story line left on the show.
And what's worse is they spent half of this nothing season to pimp out the main show to set up a spin off.
I'm not sure this show deserves to be hate watched.

quote:Last season's finale had a coordinated attempt to kill the entire family all at once.
This show is no longer about preserving Yellowstone.
And this season has legit spent more at least as much time on bunkhouse girl drama and Jimmy in Texas than they have on the fallout from last season's finale.

One weird thing to me about the horse events is that they edit in huge cheers, and talk about how big the audience is, but then they show the arena and there seem to be about 75 people there. I’ll give them a break for this, though, because this season was filmed at the peak of Covid, and it really limited them on what they could do with extras.

this is pretty much what i've said all season. in previous seasons John was hell bent on finding those involved and exacting revenge.
now it's oh well we know who it is and frick em?

No one gives a shite about showing the horses turn circles and slide arse. Nor do they care about the rodeo scenes with Taylor Sheridan.
A satisfying ending would be Jamie putting a bullet in Beth and or JD.

Yea I’d say the finale better knock ppls socks off or they will end up quitting this series sooner than Sheridan intends. And all the women I know will totally check out if Beth and rip are gone.
