Would movies like Apollo 13 and series like Band of Brothers be greenlit today?

Did a rewatch of both recently. Historical in nature. Both do their best to stay true to what actually happened. But lots of white guys and a certain sense of American pride as a backdrop. I can’t imagine a world without these shows. I wonder what else we might be missing.

Masters of the Air had black characters proclaiming that America was the greatest nation on Earth.

No it wouldn't because the writers/directors/producers/actors wouldn't fit into the Hollywood DEI/ESG mandates.

Where was the LGBTQ representation in those movies/series? Too many white men, not enough females, and the few females are "patriarchal" female representations.

Of course they’d be greenlit.
Some of you have gone batshit crazy in overreacting to any hint of DEI.

It’s never too early on a Sunday morning to be triggered on MTV by random hypothetical thoughts.

I thought it was well-known that most studios have quotas now. Is that not the case? How are these movies made today with them?

How would the studios handle the quotas?

Oppenheimer just won Best Picture with an all white, nearly all male cast. It still met the quotas because it’s not just the actors in front of the cameras, but everybody behind the camera as well.

That’s a good example. Definitely not a diverse cast in terms of race. But two women were at the forefront of the story even though the book wasn’t as focused on them as the movie was. Not that that bothered me but I don’t know how prominent their roles would have been if it was made 30 years ago.

I wasn’t aware of this. Interesting. I saw that lots of people behind the scenes people were white as well based on the technical Oscar winners. Maybe the diversity was in the lower staff.

So we have a Best Picture winner with three identifiable minorities in regards to the quota (Blunt, Pugh, the Oscar winning editor Lame) and it still met the requirements. Is it possible it’s not that a big of an issue compared to the concern that it receives?

We are counting women as minorities?

The technical term is “underrepresented group”, but yes, women count towards the quota. Essentially everybody that isn’t a straight white male is a minority for the quotas.

Good information. Thanks. I looked it up now that we are talking about it and found this article.

quote:

Each criterion mandates a different aspect of the film’s production, including the cast, production team, distributors, and senior executives, to meet quotas for the amount of representation from “underrepresented groups.” The criteria for cast require that “Lead or significant supporting actors” be “from underrepresented racial or ethnic groups,” a “General ensemble cast” with “at least 30% of all actors” in background roles being at least two different “underrepresented groups,” and a “Main storyline/subject matter” requirement that the film be “centered on an underrepresented group(s).” As a user on the social networking site, Reddit, noted, “Oppenheimer” meets the standards because its executive producer, Thomas Hayslip, is Asian, and its costume designer, Ellen Mirojnick, is female. At the same time, its distributor, Universal Pictures, is deemed sufficiently diverse because the organization has an African American president of domestic marketing, Dwight Caines, and a female president of distribution, Veronika Kwan Vandeberg.
