The gravitational pull from Poli guys to MTV topics is impressive. I mean, if gravity existed, which is up for debate. How bored do you guys get? Seriously, just look at the names and post histories of the posters that needed to chime in here.

I honestly expected some of this but thought I could get some real discussion if I persisted.

I don't think I started it off well with my initial responses, but it's a pretty loaded question that gets "drive-by" asked around here a lot.

I think a few of us are just tired of the question and posters that never contribute here telling us whatever.

Yes, our culture is being attacked and destroyed. But it's the resistance to that attack that is insane, right?

See what I mean? I never contribute on MTV.

No, and I'm very very anti DEI, but it's turned into this boogieman that people just blame for everything. South Park still exists, hell Daily Wire is making movies now. The fact I can replace half the DEI posts with "guns" and it magically turns into the same argument people use to ban them seems to be a feature not a bug. Is DEI harming the film industry, yes. Would it stop all time mini series and movies from being made now, no.

No it wouldn't because the writers/directors/producers/actors wouldn't fit into the Hollywood DEI/ESG mandates.

You’ll get downvoted and the “moderates” here will howl as if DEI is all right-wing rage porn, yet identity quotas are a real thing and it’s inevitable that they’ll impact casting. Historical productions set in the West will visibly suffer bc we’ll have to have nonsensical and ahistorical diversity.

This is true. But as far as the OP's points/type of shows, stuff can still be made that is like it. I've mentioned it numerous times in this thread, but the most watched show on Apple+ for the past few months has been a show that falls perfectly into this category.

I'd argue that the WW2/war/NASA type movies the OP was talking about will probably remain more accurate than any other genre, especially if you were to compare it to movies and TV shows adapted from works of fiction/fantasy. Can I see a good, historically accurate take on a WW2 story, yes, 100%. Can a see a true to source Tolkien or Asimov film adaption these days, no.

NOPE zero percent chance they could meet the DEI quotas with a series about WWII in Europe

“Would Oppenheimer even be greenlit today!!?11!eleven!!?”

Some of you are so ridiculous.

Let's assume Christopher Nolan isn't a known quantity with an already established 20-year career: would Oppenheimer have been greenlit?

Next question: Given the current state of Hollywood and forced diversity quotas, what happens when there are no more Christopher Nolans?

I mean there’s a new show on Apple+ right now called Masters of the Air made by the same people that did Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

This comes off as making the OP's point.

The people who did Band of Brothers and The Pacific have been relegated to Apple+...?

This is a silly argument.

The show is backed by Playtone and Amblin and has a $250 million dollar budget. It’s not like it’s airing on channel UHF 58 as a 2am infomercial.

No it doesn't

HBO wanted to produce Masters of the Air but Apple+ gave them a bigger budget. John Orioff came out and said that HBO wanted Masters of the Air bad. Apple+ has been putting out a lot of good stuff and even Apple Films is snatching big names. You think people are looking down on Martin Scorsese because he went with Apple Films for Killers of the Flower moon? "Relegated to Apple" isn't a thing that you think it is. They chose Apple.

I'm a really glad to hear that. Glad to see they got a deal deserving of their talent. Still, Apple+ is "being relegated" in the minds of most. Seems short sighted on their part.

Even so, this is an example of "big names" (known quantities) similar to Chris Nolan. Where are the creators who aren't known quantities who are getting films/shows greenlit by Hollywood?

This is why discussions like this are useless. It doesn’t matter what someone else says, everyone just goes back to their original thoughts.

Apollo 13

Whitest movie in the last 30 years.

I think you can skirt the mandatory rules of DEI if your claim is historical accuracy... But then again look at Cleopatra.

Band of Brothers would be a hoot today. Lesbian Colonels, Asian officers, half the regiment black and some gay white dude in a wheelchair out on the front lines.

You've previously heard to the creator/writer/director of every single current film/tv project?

Mark Wahlberg is staring in a film based on a true story where he befriends a wounded stray dog on an adventure race.

So yeah, those movies would get green lit today and they haven’t stopped.
