They are giving many of the women super heroes far more powers than they had when I read comics back in the 60's and early 70's.

I didn't like the movie for a number of legitimate reasons, but if you're complaining about Wonder Woman's powers, you haven't read those comics you just mentioned or you are misremembering them.

For much of the 70s, she could ride air currents, which was basically flying. In the late 80s, which I know you didn't mention, she had flight. Adding/changing powers is something comics do all the time, like when the writers in the 40s gave flight to a modestly powered superhero who could previously only "leap tall buildings in a single bound"...

So, you really thought this was a good movie?

It was terrible, but the mystery of the kid's ethnic background was far down the list of things wrong with it.

I can't believe people are down voting you for correctly pointing out Wonder Woman has been able to fly for decades in the comics.

Gal Gadot cannot act. She's ok looking. Not an OT 10. They need to kill this franchise because WW just doesn't translate well to the big screen.

Anyone else notice they put Surface of the Sun in during her flying scene. Such a good song.

Yeah I meant the second one. Horrible story, shitty villain (the cheetah was actually a lot like the electro guy), cheesy af. Reminded me a lot of it.

I know, right?

If there's a movie made for them, it's THIS one.

I dunno. I've not seen it. I heard some of the claims were overstated, and it's not as bad as some expected.

I've also heard it's boring. Long and drawn out. I really liked the 1st one so I'd be bummed if it tanked.

And therein lies the crux of EVERY DC movie, save The Dark Knight and maybe Dark Knight Rises, if you catch me on a good day.

In fairness, it plagues half of the Marvel flicks, too.

So you didn't read them back in the day I see, she had an invisible jet to fly.

That is why they did the invisible trick in the movie.

Gliding on the wind is far different than showing her use the rope and flying as they did in the movie.

We all know the jet, I'm telling you there was often much more than just the jet, because her powers changed and evolved constantly throughout the decades.

But flying is a power she had in the actual 1980s, making it appropriate for this movie, even if executed in a eye-rolling sort of way.

Holy shite this movie was bad...

Admittedly I'm not a comic book guy. I skip 90% of these, but I saw the first one on an airplane and found it entertaining enough.

I thought about turning it off halfway through the mall scene, but stuck it out another 30 minutes. I get comic book movies are inherently cheesy and one set in the 80s is probably even more campy by nature, but I couldn't get into it. The fact that I far and away prefer the scenes where the superhero is not doing superhero shite probably means this genre just isn't for me.

No, this is different. This IS NO villain in this movie.

Max Lord is a shady con artist, but he's only trying to make something of his life. He's running a Ponzi scheme, but he doesn't WANT it to be one, he wants the business to make money (find oil). Early on when he's trading wishes for stuff in return, he wants the Egyptian guy's oil fields, so his business in return becomes legit. He is driven to "not be a loser" so his son is proud of him. His wish, to BE the Dream-stone (in other words, to have the power for himself), is trying to maximize his wish. It's like wishing to have the Genie's powers (thus, unlimited wishes), instead of the one-off deal.

Barbara Minerva AKA Cheetah, even moreso, is not a villain. She's socially awkward and unpopular (really, when you get multiple PhD's and get hired to work for the Smithsonian, I wouldn't think you'd care, but whatever), and her only wish is to be "like Diana", which she simply thinks is strong and confident, as well as being secure in herself. She just wants to be popular, she's a little shocked when she finds out she's super-strong.
Her second wish, she says she doesn't want to be like anyone, she wants to be the "apex predator", so that's saying she wants to be the one on top. That's a more self-secure wish than to "be like Diana".

That's it... there's your bad guys. No evil baddies, no criminal masterminds, just a couple less fortunate folks who want their wishes to come true (and then stay true).

The "bad guy" I suppose, is the wish stone itself, and the temptation it provides to give you something you didn't earn for yourself.
And later on, Max manipulating people into making wishes they didn't think out; I'm sure the US President would, with consideration, wish for something more profound than "more missiles closer to the USSR".

This concept doesn't lend itself well to costumed superhero stories, because they're at their best when they are kicking someone's arse, not when they're grappling with philosophical dilemmas.

She's been able to glide in the wind since the late 50s and able to straight up fly like Superman since the mid 80s.

I thought for sure that the pagan spirit/demon that inspired the stone and its ring to be forged would reveal itself. Diana made a big deal of her reaction to discovering its name.
