Justified has a lot of humor, and characters that are too cool for the real world. Justified is fun. Winter's Bone is just too real, the whole thing just feels like a bummer.

Winter's Bone did a great job portraying how that situation could realistically play out. However, despite that and the good acting, I did not find it all that entertaining.

I really liked Winter's Bone, but I thought the ending was pretty weak.

Not that I like being bummed out, but the reality and authenticity made it a great movie.

I didn't say it was like Justified but it won't hurt people who watch Justified to see the ugliness (reality) of meth.

Dicky Bennett is a silly dumb arse and we all laugh at him when Raylan catches him and sends him back to prison. IRL a Dicky Bennett is probably going to have more than one kid that isn't reaping the benefits of Mag's empire. One of those idiots would probably have illegitimate kids living in trailers with meth whores.

The Wonderful Whites documentary is funny but not for the kids of those idiots. People who have "great" lives need to see the other side every once in a while whether it's in the woods of Missouri or the 9th Ward. Someone that comes out of that should be appreciated.

A person that gets out of that and works at McDonalds, Kroger or a temp company has a great amount of dignity in my eyes. I get that vibe from the girl in that movie.

I watched it not too long ago. It is a real good movie and probably isn't that far fetched of it actually being true.

Very good movie. Jennifer Lawrence is awesome. The realness of the movie was a huge factor for me liking it. Plenty of people around here's favorite movie from that year.

John Hawkes will always be Sol Starr to me, but yeah, he was great as Uncle Teardrop.

I think of him as Kenny Power's brother, he was great in this movie.

Winter's Bone is available on Demand if you have Epix. Been thinking about it for the past couple of months but wasn't sure about the movie. After seeing this thread, I decided to watch it last night. I'm glad I did.

Winter's Bone is one of my favorite movies. I bought it on DVD when it released. The other night I watched it and "Chrystal" back to back and my wife asked me if I was contemplating suicide. WB is a very dark movie but I gravitate toward darker movies and books.

Merab character is strong and Garret Dillahunt as the sheriff is also an interesting role for no more screen time than he has.

Finally watched it last night. Really good movie.

It was deserving of the nominations it got, but not sure if it should have won as others have said. Looking back on it, that was one of the strongest years for movies and performances in a while imho.

with the "realness" of the movie i was also expecting something HUGE at the end. Bummed, as well.
great acting, directing, casting, location managment, even climax. but the writing gets bad marks from me cause of the ending. i love indie films, but i also like to be entertained on some level.

This. The movie never tried to stretch the reality and harshness of the characters' predicaments. It's brutal realism made it a pleasure for me to watch.

Watched this movie tonight and really, really liked it. As others have said, the realness to it is what made the movie great. Very dark and intense throughout. I love movies like this (Frozen River is a great one that has the dark/cold feel to it).

The ending was just fine. No need for a Hollywood shootout or something cheesy.

Jennifer Lawrence was terrific. But so was John Hawkes as Teardrop. A really talented actor. Check him out in a totally different role in "The Sessions" that's just been released.
