Unless I have missed something, I don't think they have made any decent movies in this genre since around 2008 or so. Maybe a few decent ones between 2008 and 2013, and that is when the decline really went down. Step Brother is the last one that comes to mind.

Deadpool and Wolverine?

The Nice Guys is definitely more recent than 2013

Nope.

The only generes that work in theaters are comic book movies, animated kids movies, and extremely low budget horror flicks.

Not trying to be a smartass. But I didn't realize that was a comedy movie. I thought it was a super hero movie and I don't watch that genre.

Looks it's 2016. I honestly haven't seen it or heard much about it. I will check it out and give it a chance.

That are usually over the top, graphic and gory to the point of being sadistic. This genre has become unwatchable.

Deadpool and wolverine is new and definitely fits blockbuster category.

Some other stuff that was big budget but maybe doesn't fit blockbuster would be knives out glass onion (300 million spent on that comedy)

Mean girls remake was expensive, didn't watch it

Jumanji 1 and 2 (not sure on budgets but with that cast couldn't be cheap)

The Gentlemen by Guy Ritchie, hilarious if you like that style

Barbie I don't consider hilarious but it was big budget comedy and successful

Step Brothers wasn’t a blockbuster. It only made $30MM on its theatrical run. It was a home release hit.
You probably gave to go back to like Wedding Crashers

Was also wondering this.

Makes it tough to categorize blockbusters that match it

Wedding Crashers was 2005, just 1 year after Anchor-Man

Talladega Nights (2006) may have been the last blockbuster comedy

I think this will become a semantics argument over the term "Blockbuster" but if we are going off of box office Game Night came out in 2018 and made over 100 million.

If we are talking about big studio comedies I heard a podcast discuss this a while back and they said what really killed comedies is streaming. You no longer have as many networks needing to fill hours so instead of being able to license a ton of movies to comedy central etc the library just goes on Paramount's or peacock or WBs and others streaming network so it's less valuable. Also the physical media market doesn't make money like it once did thanks to streaming. Back in the day everyone you knew owned Super Troopers or American Pie and that let the studios take a chance on a movie that will make money later even if it isn't a box office hit. Now you steam it and the $5.99 you pay the streaming service doesn't actually go to the movie so there isn't money to me made up for them later.

Pineapple Express in 2008 and The Hangover in 2009 are the last ones I remember.

Tropic Thunder (2008), The Hangover (2009), and This is the End (2013) are some of the last ones I can remember.

We're the Millers (2013) made a ton of money. Horrible Bosses 2 (2014) did ok. 22 Jump Street (2014) made bank.

Really just not many big comedies I liked after those, unfortunately.

Oh I agree, I think they are awful but they get constantly made because they turn consistent profits.

Are you unfamiliar with Deadpool? The entire movie was nonstop jokes and memes, it isn't a serious superhero movie, it's a comedy

The Hangover was 2009, I think that qualifies. It was a smash cultural hit at the time
