As already stated, its plot vs cinematography.

It depends on what the binge watcher wants. If you want a realistic medieval period with a fantasy twist, then only the first 5 seasons will be satisfying. If your only looking forward to the fights and cinematography, then the last few seasons will be the best for you.

Many people dont make plotlines their primary focus of entertainment. That's not necessarily a stab at people, but it's the truth.

Perfect examples are Star Wars with Rian Johnson. The harsh truth about entertainment is this : once a property becomes popular, there is more incentive to cater to cater to pop culture trends than create a good narrative.

And "subversion" by itself does not make a story good. That's a thread for another time.

LOST dropped off 10x worse that GOT.

I’d love to hear the argument for this.

But Game of Thrones is still in the Top 20. Failing to secure the landing I think knocks it out of the Top 10.

Like LOST, much of the earlier plots seem pointless.

LOST just put a shite tons of mysteries out there and any that weren’t answered on the show were explained by the writers later.

But here’s the difference between LOST’s ending and Game of Thrones: LOST stayed true to its characters and there aren’t massive lapses in stupidity from the characters. Game
of Thrones has fricked over Jaime, Dany, Jon, Arya, Bran, and Brienne’s characters (ie half the cast) and arcs to a pretty awful degree. Only Sayid’s character I think was betrayed by the writers.

Maybe they completely redeem this tomorrow, but it seems LOST landed it’s ending far more than Game of Thrones. That doesn’t mean LOST is the better series, but it does mean it has the better ending both in plot and the characters. And don’t give me the sideflashes as a reason it is worse since you can ignore that if you so choose.

Breaking Bad - spin off is arguably better than the original. Elevates the original series and the franchise as a whole.

Yes, the same way LOST still is.

People hated the last two seasons of LOST, esp the ending. It was just as divisive as this.

It's still considered one of the greats and so will GOT.

Agreed. Anyone who says GoT won’t be remembered as groundbreaking and on of the GOATs is fooling themselves.

It set its own bar for things we’ve never seen on television before and people kept wanting that higher dopamine hit

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t they cut these two great shows short to save money and make space for Thrones?

Haven’t heard that. Rome maybe but the ratings were awful.

Considering both ended in 2006/2007 and GOT didn't air until 2011 I'd say no.

I agree and ironically it was another great show with an unbelievably terrible ending.

Nope. GOAT status shows don’t have entire forgettable seasons.

Nope. Breaking Bad and The Wire are both head and shoulders better start to finish with minimal to no drop off in quality.

It may be the most polarized ending ever to a series, but this seems to be mostly shitting all over the end. The LOST finale was a love it or hate it. Game of Thrones is anywhere from Meh to anticlimatic.

Top 50, sure

top 50 is all you're giving it.

bad ending or not, it would be hard to take it out of the top 10.

Lost is not in the GOAT conversation and it isn’t even really close. Messy storyline, stupid time traveling plot line. Events put into the story and expecting some type of pay of but literally nothing happens. The entire last season is pretty meh.

The Wire is my #1 show of all time, but there is a distinct dropoff in quality in season five.

Disagree. If any season was somewhat weaker I would say season 2. Regardless, no season of The Wire compares to this atrocity. What’s sad is, it is purely the writers and whoever the hell was in charge of the darkness levels of episode 3. Everyone else did a great job.

i havent read through the thread but here are my thoughts.

In reality, even with the shite season 7 and 8, it was a better show than anything else. But with how 7 and 8 went down it will always be talked as the show that could have been and fell flat. Even though the ones it is compared to did the same thing (Sopranos) it wasnt in an era that lives in the moment like today.
