Why do so many regular people put stock into award ceremonies aka Hollywood circle jerks?

It's important for you for the Academy or the Hollywood Foreign whatever to validate your tastes or something?

I think the average person just likes to see their favorite actor, movie, director etc. win more so than putting tons of stock into what or who wins. I don’t think many people get legit upset if something doesn’t win

It’s just a chance to celebrate the years best. I wouldn’t get so worked up about it buddy

Me right here. I like cheering for actors/actresses and filmmakers that I like.

Most of those types watch it so they can come to places like this board and brag about their taste and ability to analyze the little subtleties in film because they just knew such and such movie would win and they were so right.

Because they give shite to each other and put it on TV every year. For the fans, they get to root for their favorite nominees.

But mostly, it's all about chicks and figs.

This is the first year I didn't watch the golden globes. I like Ricky Gervais but I can do without Seth Meyers. I don't know if he did it sunday night, but his trump bashing schtick is just old.

Which award ceremonies hold any stock besides the Oscars and the Grammys?

It gives them a chance to whine.

Agreed. These awards are just a fart sniffing fest for the Hollywood ruling class and hipsters

I read the results from the show the next day. Then I watch the nominees and winners. That is the only reason I look up any of the award show stuff. It's advertising for movies.

Last year's Oscars had that interesting moment where they brought in a tour group of average schmoes during the ceremonies. It really showcased how separate we are from Hollywood. It was like they walked into a zoo.

I have no clue why people even care about this stuff. Not only do they have these shows and speeches, but then everyone for some reason cares what the people wear.

They dress up like senators from Krypton to smell each other's asses and celebrate something that upwards of 30% of the populace could have done just as well (acting that is). Then people like Merryl Steep and Reece Witherspoon have the balls to act like they are there to empower women when they had full knowledge or were direct beneficiaries of all that Weinstein type shite. So I have no idea to answer your question

So you believe these awards go to the best and not to those who most successfully pursue them through PR campaigns?

Yeah, I made the mistake of turning by the Golden Globes right when Reese Witherspoon was pouring high praise on Oprah, as if she was the greatest thing ever. I then wanted to go the bathroom and vomit out of sadness.

I'll read the list of nominees and winners the next morning with some interest, but no way am I watching that on tv. Especially not in this political day and age.

I think if you combine all of the films nominated for these type of award shows, you will collect some of the best films made that year. Of course there will be some left out.
