Why do new Star Wars movies constantly use sand locations?

I get them wanting to shy away from blue screen planets like the prequels but there are plenty of unique locations to film at on Earth.
The Door to Hell should have been used in ROTS.

I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

because the old Star Wars movies used sand locations and Disney knows this series is based on nostalgia

Saw these in Maui on the Road to Hana, and I tell you these are the most gorgeous trees I have ever seen. Stunning beauty that would film very well.

If they use sand, half the fans bitch that they are just copying the original.
If they don't use sand, half the fans bitch that they are getting too far away from the story.

I think they wanted to give a feeling of no hope for Luke and Rey, and sand with no greenery does that.

Is there a single sand location in The Last Jedi?

Dry, arid and sand have always been connected with the future in fantasy and Sci-Fi - look at the original Star Trek series, they were always landing on planets that looked like Death Valley. Look at Mad Max, hell look at Galaxy Quest.
Plus, look at Return.
Besides the Ewoks the trees overwhelm the scenes. Everyone I guess wants to see these big battles and focus on the characters without distractions and in that movie everyone is lost in the forest.

Because they try to show that these people have had to fight and struggle for everything they've ever gotten. What better way than to have it set in a place with little to no resources?

Lucas' films went out of the way to have a different planet terrain in each film without repeating. The Disney movies had a snow planet in TFA and Solo despite already having Hoth. It also had sand planets in TFA, Rouge One and Solo . Takadonna is basically Yavin.

bc sand is exotic ( middle east)

They are more exotic places than just the Middle East.

Jabba lives on Tattione. Han was brought to Jabba. They kind of had to go back.

Part of Lucas' inspiration for Star Wars came from Dune.

prepare your anus for salt planets from here on out.

They probably don't want people filming massive films in those nice places.
