Why didn't Karate Kid ever carry key characters over?

In all three movies life was completely different for Daniel-San. Everybody in his life completely disappeared from story to story. Why is that?
His mom disappeared after the first, he never carried over the love of his life, and none of his former battles extended beyond parts (with the exception of John Krease).
There were many opportunities to re introduce a Johnny, Allie, etc. What ever became of Chosen and others left behind in Okinawa? Why in this great series did so many characters never have and ending?

good question
although johnny could have been reintroduced they did a good job with the "bad boy" especially since both actors in addition to kreese and thomas ian griffith who played terry silver all had black belts in karate/tang soo do in real life.

Ali wasn't carried over because she made the best decision of her life and ditched that bitch arse Danielsah for a much, much better guy (UCLA football player).
Let's face it, Kumiko was never gonna move to the States and go through immigration paperwork to end up with some fig like Danielsah. She found her a good, honorable Okinawan and settled down for a comfortable life. Hell, maybe Chozen even came back and apologized, and he and Kumiko lived happily ever after. After all, he knows she riked him with his shirt off.
John and all of his classmates clearly went on to lead successful lives. Hell, while Daniel was disrespecting first class Japenese citizens and I bet they all were studying hard (and partying hard) in college like normal kids, and eventually went to law school and started a law firm together and ball out on the weekends on their yachts. While Danielsah tinkers with old cars, catches flies with chopsticks, and makes a menial living as a makeshift handyman doing odd jobs for Mr. Miyagi.
Also, I always post this awesome thread when things like this come up.

It was how movies and sequels were done in the 80’s.
If they could get actors back, great. If not. Who cares? Write a new story without them.
Unlike today, back then, sequels aimed more often to do something new and creative with each movie and then maybe sorta tried to wrap up the larger arc (if there was one) in the last film of their contract. No biggie. People weren’t near as hard core on the serial nature of story telling back then.
See the high lander movies

Chosen definitely committed seppuku after he was disgraced in front of the whole town. It was his only option.

We had this exact conversation a year and a half ago in my KK thread that was bumped earlier.

I remember that. I still stand by my belief that he had to kill himself.

And I stand by my take that he isn't exactly what one would call a quitter.

Mr. Miyagi carries over as the main focus along with dipshit Daniel..
Johnny is off in college banging hoes and kicking arse on his way to a future stint as Governor.. Daniel was an afterthought to him.. a high school memory that he didnt need to waste time mulling over.. Johnny was and will always be the gracious true Karate Kid
The mom was a wasteful character after the first and not needed as he transitioned into adulthood and she moved up the corporate ladder.
Allie was a hoe looking to make Johnny jealous.. She moved on to something better. Daniel was her slumming to make herself feel better about her privileged debutante life

He switched from karate to diving while in college.

Different, but same.

After johnnys apparent change of heart at the end of the first one, I always thought it would have been a great angle to add him in 3 as a protagonist helping Daniel, maybe beginning with Johnny washed up carrying baggage from Crease's influence and then them helping each other.

You seem to have missed that Daniel is a complete a-hole and is actually the villain of the series. Of course he drops people once they are done being useful to him. He's a shitbag like that.

uhh... no.
back then it was far more likely the sequel would be the exact same movie with mild changes.
